Two years ago I picked up a pair of Lundhags Syncho 31cm Lundhags and they have proven to be one though boot. I have a pair of 15 year old Meindl Glockner's and they are on the third sole to compare them to, the Glockner's are a bit stiffer, for hiking/climbing, but the Syncho's are outstanding for wet, rough craggy ground. Costly but I expect they will pay for themselves in the long walk er ... run.

Couldnt aggree more Steyrman had my Meindls for 6yrs now and still in great condition, its the old saying you get what you pay for
I do a lot of Stalking in the Scottish highlands and in that terrain you are giving your gear a proper hard workout
As for Jack Pyke imo ALL they sell is cheap Chinese junk :D

Jack Pyke gear is over-rated. I bought a pair of Jack Pyke boots last January, since I have been back to the shop I purchased them twice for a replacement pair as they are no more gore-tex then a house without a roof.
The rubber band around the boot between the body of the boot and the sole leaks after a while.
Worst 100euro I ever spent, should have gone away and bought Haix or the likes.
Also have Jack Pyke trousers, not impressed with them. Water doesnt get through flowingly but dampness over a few hours does and I get cold and wet eventually.

Average enough is right, over priced at that.

bought pair jack pyke boots for last season. prob didnt take enough care of them but never again.soak in water constant.they are gone out of shape an not comfortable.total waste of money.went back to wellies this year.there is a lot of different views on footwear on various web sites.
so much so its hard to make up your mind on the right choice.i would like decent pair boots and wouldnt mind spending the money but after the jack pyke experience im nervous about it.

Have you any idea how a person is meant to take care of them to last longer? because ive tried find info and emailed Jack Pyke and no tips were given.

boots came lovely pair of boots but not a great fit for me will need extra socks thats the cons of not going to the shop and putting the things on your feet every boot fits a little differently but they are comfortable on and look really well put together

    Deeks,

The cobbler in Donegal Town put the first soles on. He has since passed on.
The Glockner are a stitch down (Norwegian welt) so any cobbler worth his/her salt will be able to work (soles) on them. Barge or contact cement and a Vibram montagna sole and the know-how to put them together.
Bryan's on I think it's Talbot Street,Dublin, rebuilt (stitching etc.) them once when I dropped the boots off for new soles. He is a very good old style shoe & boot repair man.

Jack Pyke footwear isn't fantastic, generally speaking. We had enough inches of snow in Tyrone this morning (1" :D) for me to justify a new pair of Aigle Artemis. They are great boots. Vibram soles make all the difference.

Meindl are excellent as well, in fact better than Aigle IMO, but I don't have them as easily available as the Aigles

Protac.ie do meindl army pro for €230. That's 40 quid below rrp! You won't get a better hunting boot. Lots of lads I know love the meindl glockner but, speaking as an experienced hillwalker, climber, mountain rescue volunteer(10+years)and someone who worked go outdoor retail for 8 years, the glockner is a c-rated boot, meaning it's stiffened for crampons. It's too stiff for regular hillwalking, so, unless you hunt on snow covered slopes with spikes on your feet, it won't do your ankles or your back any good in the long term, and can torture your calves and give you terrible shin splints:( IMO for what it's worth, is go for army pro, tagia or douvre by meindl, any boot by Danner or new army surplus boot. And if you love your feet(and you should, they don't grow back;)) stay away from Jack pyke and the likes, as they will do you nothing but hurt you and cost you money! Two things I learned from mountain rescue, look after your feet and your back, don't buy cheap rucksacks either, (as they are the only bits of you that are fcuked when damaged badly once. Just my 2c.
