just curious, but with the proposed 2% in the VAT rate in the upcoming budget, will people continue to support their LBS or will you be forced to use online retailers in the north or the UK?

Wiggle and CRC charge Irish VAT anyway

There's no doubt this makes Irish retailers less attractive but I suspect most of the posters on here will already be importing a lot of their gear

Currency fluctuations probably influence purchase choices more than the relative VAT rates - if the Euro weakens that makes Irish prices more competitive (certainly over the short term).

And if the euro goes no one will be able to afford cube, focus or beone but given that Italy is in the ****e as well it could end up good for some real euro brands

    Been using Crc for years

Local bike shops including some of the bigger bike shops in Dublin can't and won't compete with the likes of Crc which is a shame. I'd prefer to deal locally fact is they can't offer what you want at a competitive price . I recently tried dealing with a local bike shop . He was over 25% dearer than Crc and wanted to supply me with lesser parts . No thanks

With the extra 2% rise in vat online shops such as wiggle and Crc must be delighted .

I can confirm Wiggle and CRC charge Irish VAT to Irish customers (and UK VAT to UK customers) - they have done so for some time (check their websites - look at the prices for helmets which are zero rated in the UK and compare prices for UK and Irish delivery;))

This is the correct treatment under EU VAT law - once annual sales hit a certain threshold (€35k per annum IIRC for Ireland) online retailers are required to charge VAT based on the country of delivery, not despatch

    Have to say I disagree.
I have rarely been able to buy consumables online cheaper than in either Cycleogical and Cycleways. Talking about tyres, tubes, lube, CO2, cleats.
Clothes and bikes are cheaper online, but not consumables IMHO.

Really ? My apologies so . How is that possible with the likes of crc being an outside the bannana republic? I always assumed you paid vat At the vendors country's rate. I'm not impressed with knowing that fact now I may find some other online retailer to purchase from. not impressed

It's a requirement under EU law - the only discretion available to member states is the level of sales at which a retailer has to register for "local" VAT - Ireland chooses the lowest possible figure I believe

i have to say that i actually use the CSS mostly myself, the quick delivery helps but with my customer loyalty the last purchase i made (tacx antares rollers) were €20 cheaper than from CRC...but after Wednesday i wonder how long that will last

    Try here
For orders placed from within the EU, prices include VAT (Value Added Tax)* charged at the rate appropriate to the destination country of the order.
