Reading a current thread got me wondering where is the best price for pro v's and how much? A friend was telling me elverys were selling them for €33 a box (current 2011 model) in a sale recently.
Anyone know of any better value than that?

Very cheap price in Elverys haven't seen them that cheap anywhere else. Have seen them in Moyvalley & McGuirks at €40 quid for dozen

Just buy them second hand during the season, adverts or ebay etc. They are so abundant you can usually get ones without a mark on them for about half price. Once they are not lake balls they will be grand. Probably been played with for a hole and sat in the trees for a few days before being picked up.

What effect do they have from been lake balls?

They become water logged and it effects performance, distance spin etc. Also refurbished balls have an extra layer applied that changes the dimples and effects the aerodynamics of the ball. All in all just leading to unpredictable things happening.

It's not just that the balls will perform badly but more so they will play differently from ball to ball.

I'm not really too fussy about balls and although I know its best to consistently use the same ball. I often switch between NXT Tours, V1's, AD33s and occasionally the odd Z-Star (gave up on the Pentas, too expensive and hard to find). But at least I have a bit of an idea what each ball is going to do as i would have played them before. But if I end up playing different balls and then some are refurbs and some lake and some new or found .. That's just madness ..

Probably best to stay away from the refurb and lake balls, if going used best to get them in season and locally sourced.

Also I have recently changed my opinion of best ball to NXT Tours, definitely the best all round performer. Noticeable distance compared to everything off the tee, less spin off the driver so easier keep in play, and still a bit of softness around the green. All in all I end up longer and in play with them and that negates the marginal benefit of having a softer ball around the green.

Pro V1 balls with practice wrote on the side. Brand new Pro V1 ball but Titleist had legalities with Callaway in the States so they put practice on the side and sold them for a period of time. They can be used in competition also....around €25-€30 per dozen!!

I was up in Halpenny in Swords at the weekend and they had ProV1 practice for €25 (I think - maybe it was €29, can't recall). I thought it was a decent deal anyway

Give them a call as they still had some left.

    4 doz going Cheap!!
You'd get them online from a shop for that.

Can someone explain to me what the difference is between the practice pro v1s and the proper ones?

    Thanks.

The practice prov's are seconds and have practice on the side of them. They are legal for tournament play. I have used them before I could not tell the difference other than the obvious "practice" on the side.
The only other difference is the packaging and price.

    There's no difference in them..
guy who i got them from on adverts told me
when the financial bubble burst a few years back titleist had an oversupply of prov's . instead of dropping price on "brand prov" they stamped PRACTICE on side of some of their supply. They sell these at discount and can still able to charge premium price for rest. ;)

Actually what Golfcaddy was told is 100% true.
V clever stroke by Titleist as they have protected the premium price on their flagship ball.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did actually do this with some of them if there was an oversupply. At the end of the day, it costs them feck all to make the balls as they're doing it in such high volumes. I doubt all of them are brand new pro v's but I'd imagine there could be a few in each box that are.

I went for lake balls altogther. Got a dozen in Kilkenny for €18. They were in good nick so they'll do the trick.

Was speaking with the rep about these yesterday. He says that the Practice balls get released when they are getting ready to launch new versions of the Pro V1. Helps to clear old stock. Next batch will be released towards the end of the summer 2012 as new Pro V due then.
