I have a renault traffic 1.9 dci, which seems to have a constant problem. Most of the time it seems to be lacking in power, and then out of nowhere it will correct itself and have plenty of power. No one can solve the problem. I have to always change down to a real low gear to build up the power. Its getting fierce annoying for passing out etc. Any one any suggestions ??

I had 3 of these vans (well the Nissan-badged ones but they are mechanically the same) a couple of years ago and 2 of the 3 did this at various stages.

In our case it was caused by the relays on the upper LHS when you look under the bonnet going faulty and acting up intermittently.

As far as I remember we ended up changing the set on each one to sort it.

We did have the advantage of being able to unplug bits from one and put them onto the other to try to sort it so we knew what we needed to buy.

It might be worth seeing if the dealers have a second-hand van they could exchange the parts from (and you pay them a deposit) to see if it sorted the issue for you.

The 3rd van had an issue with the NRV in the fuel line leaking through and allowing the line to drain back to the tank but this showed up pretty quickly and there were issues with starting it due to fuel starvation and the loss of power in that one only lasted for less than a day.

Try disconnecting the MAF to see if it sorts the problem.

It's on the air intake, just unplug the electrical connector, if google it you'll see where it's located.

How would relays affect engine power? I thought a relay was a fancy switch?
    Total n00b here
