Registration Cert number.....related to year?

I'm about to buy a second hand car from a trader. Everything checks out ok except for the number on the registration certificate which is not appearing when I run it through motorcheck.ie. Everything else is ok though.

The question is, do the first 2 digits of the cert number relate to the year?

EG: C06 3221472 - Would this belonging to a 2006 car? The car in question is a 2005 but the cert number begins with C10. Am I being over cautious???

Over cautious! The c10 number is nothing to do with reg, it has to do with when it was last sold, so you're ok
