So I got a new computer yesterday, very good one.
And I installed Windows 7 on it, I set the Windows Update to the one that was recommended and then it download like 90 Updates and then said it has to restart. so when I shut it down it spends like 10mins installing the 90 Updates, when it gets to about 80 it will shutdown and reboot, then it will start configuring the update, it never leaves 0% here, but after like 5-10mins it will say "Configuring Windows Failed: Reverting Windows" and then it will log me in fine and I can do what I want. Just don't like waiting 10mins to shut it down and boot it up, especially when I bought an SSD specifically for it to be fast.

    Ah, very annoying.

You could download and install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 outside of Windows Update. It contains many of the updates Windows tried to install on a fresh copy.

You can get it from the Microsoft website - there are several links in the page, but select windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe for 32-bit Windows or windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe for 64-bit Windows. Install it and then try checking for and downloading updates again. :)

maybe you installed wrong package or smth, your windows is 32 bit and you installed 64 ;]

best thing to do is look up your windows version, right click computer and properties, that will show what windows version are you running, whether its 7 64 bit or 32 bit. when you find that out go to Microsoft website and download the service pack as mentioned

If you open up the "windows update" in Windows 7's control panel, there is a link for view update history. You can identify which update failed.

Then you can click on the link for 90 important updates are available and deselect this one problem update.

Also if you post the name of the failed update, you can
    1) look up the update entry in event log
Click the Start button, right click on "Computer", choose Manage.
    You'll be asked for permission.
Under the computer management, click "System Tools", "Event Manager", "Application and services logs", "Microsoft", "Windows", "WindowsUpdateClient", Operational.
If you can find the error, it might give you a reason.

    2) post it here to see if we can advise on a fix
