5770CF or 4870CF?

I currently have a single 4870 1GB. For a relatively small price I can add a second 4870 1GB or ditch it and go with 2 5770s. Any one have an idea of which would be the better way to go. The 4870 is the better card but the 5770 scales better with crossfire and should perform better on newer games. Would it be enough to close the gap with the 4870 though? I know that there won't be a massive difference but would still appreciate any thoughts.

Isn't 4870 more powerful then 5770? It is omits own I guess, but I dunno about scaling. I would go for second 4870 as its cheaper way until you get some better single gpu.

Wouldn't 6870 be in same price bracket as dual 5770x2. It's a great great card.

Word of warning: the 4870 uses a lot of power. Chances are you'll need a beefier PSU if you want to crossfire it.

Just doing a quick search, I found this review, which compares 5770s in CF vs a 4870 x2. The 5770s seem to beat the 4870 x2 in most games, except for crysis where the 5770s are just 3 fps behind the 4870 x2.

In Guru3Ds review, xBitLabs review and Rage3Ds review, the 4870 x2 is compared to two 4870s in CF and at the very least they give similar performance, but more often than not, the X2 beats the 4870s in CF by 5 - 10fps.

Overall, I would say you would be better off going for the 5770s in CF, not only because of the results above but you would probably need less power to run them. Of course the other major benefit would be that you can't run DX11 using the 4870s but you can if you choose the 5770s.

I seen a review comparing the 4870x2 to crossfired 5770s with similar results. I assumed that crossfired 4870s would perform better than a 4870x2 for some reason. Looks like I'll go with the 5770s so. They should be a bit quieter than the 4870s.

I just got my 5770 crossfire working, moments ago....

I was coming to the forum debating whether to post photos but here you go cushion. My original Vapor-X 5770 just had sex.

Now I havent even had a chance to give it a shakedown but I'll get back to you. Had some long-winded issues that were mostly user error with the drivers, I made it a convenient time to do my annual reformat :pac:

runs very well. With everything maxed on Skyrim it's very smooth outdoors and only jittery in cities at night time. Probably don't need as much AA on as I have right now though (not at 1920 res), or FXAA, but on the plains it is wonderful, you can spot a dragon from miles off (not pictured here...should have thought to but I was too busy running to it) http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/630732600955120674/E3245DF44FFA1A369E470BF4B9CCB52D38FA0C91/

edit: find the atronarch? :D probably dial back the AA and up the view distance on grass etc.

    I would get a single 6850 for €20 extra.

Don't hate me yet. Tried out the two 5770s before paying for the second one and boy was it loud. Even while the computer was idle. So, I'm not gonna buy it, I'll stick with the 4870. I might stick the other 5770 up on adverts once I get a chance.

i have no experience with the stock 5770, these are the Vapor-X variant, they're pretty damn quiet.
