The light blinks 7 times then pauses and blinks 7 times again and keeps doing this.
The only way to switch it back on is to plug it out and in again and at that it switches off again in 20 mins or less.

Its out of guarantee by 2 months but this is ridiculously bad for a near new telly.

    Anyone hear of this?
    Bought in curry's carrickmines

    Ok, 2 things here
1, you may be able to diognose the problem by the number of blinks. A search on the net may assist. Possibly a reset to factory settings?
2, A 12 month warrenty is not a hard rule. If Currys or Sony will not entertain a resolve of the problem, you can try the small claims court.

Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.

    Thats from google.
Various other links suggest changing capacitors or replacing a d board

I have nightmares of being without a Telly up to Xmas if I leave it in to Currys..they are also quite a trek away, well a 40 minute drive.
Shocking bad form for a 14 month old telly.

I do know a local repairer who can fix it but I pay.I've told him if it's more than a 100 euro,I'm not doing it.
I haven't brought it down there yet.

give sony a bell with the serial number and model number. it might be a known fault with the model and they will sort it if it is.

That would be for a CRT.

Talk to currys first to register you complaint and get the full name of the person you talk to at the store, hopefully the manager.Next talk to Sony about a free repair as the set is only 14 months old.

Under EU rules all electrical equipment sold in the EU has a 2 year guarantee. The retailer is responsible NOT the manufacturer.
The manufacturers 1 year warrenty is in addition to your legal 2 year guarantee. Most shops will try to get out of this.

pretty sure warranty is 1 year in Ireland

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,129 ✭✭✭kirving

It can actually be up to six or seven years. That depends however on how the small claims court views the case. For example, it is reasonable to expect a €1200 radio to last 6 years, a €30 kettle - not really.

Did you completely power it down for a while and try a factory reset? A Sony TV I got did similar a few months after I got it. Pretty sure it was because I connected a double Xbox controller charger do it. Once I shut down for a bit and reset the settings it's been fine since.

Well you are wrong. It is this sort of ignorance that enables shops to wriggle out of their legal oblications.
In fact many shop assistants don't even know, but their managers should.
Remember the manufacturers 1 year guarantee is in addition to your legal rights.
This website explains it all. See especially page 7.
