Only Now & Next Info in EPG of Sony TV (Saorview approved).

I'm only getting now and next information for programmes from the EPG of a Sony Saorview approved TV (EX524 series) for the Saorview channels. For programmes further out I'm getting the following message: "This event data is invalid".

However for the Freeview channels I can get programme info for programmes for the next day and so on.

Wonder why I am only getting now & next info in the EPG with the Saorview channels? Country is set to Ireland.

It is loading the UK epg data first and not loading the full epg and programme event data from the Saorview transmitter. Clicking on RTE1 within the epg table doesnt load it ? It should.

What Country is the Tv set to ?

I have a similar issue with a Saorview certified Sony and I've been corresponding with Sony for a while to get satisfaction.

I got a email from them last week which I meant to post:

"Thank you for your email regarding display of EPG programme information and apologies for the delay in replying as we have had to take this issue to our R&D team in Tokyo and this has taken some time.

In addition, we have also raised this with the independent agency appointed by RTE to certify TV’s as SAORVIEW approved as they tested this model prior to launch and passed it as fully approved.

The feedback from our engineers in Tokyo is that the issue can be resolved by means of a software download which will be available in early 2012 and can be done over the air via your SAORVIEW signal. Your EPG will then perform fully as you expect it to."

I have a problem with my Sony W5500 that only started about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

When I am switching between channels on the in-built tuner i.e. watching Saorview, it can take about 30sec max to change the channel on the screen. Sometimes it takes 1sec like it used to, but I'd guess more than 50% of the time, its about 10-15secs. It makes channel hopping a real pain.

Also, when I try to switch between sources i.e. from Saorview to Freesat (HDMI1) or BluRay (HDMI2) it can also take about 10sec, and the TV often leaves the display up permanently on the screen instead of fading after a few secs like it should.

I wonder has something changed recently thats causing this, or is my TV just buggered?

Still awaiting reply from Sony. Its under a 3yr warranty.

    Thanks for the replies fellas.

    @STB.

Did a factory reset and auto retune. Country is definitely set to Ireland. Issue remains. Only now & next info in the EPG for Saorview channels. After that getting the message: "This event data is invalid" again.

Freeview channels (from Divis) are ok. Info showing in the EPG for next day etc.

    @evilivor.

Very interesting. How strict is this Saorview certification process I wonder?

I have the Sony Freeview HDT 500 Twin Tuner and I have a similar problem except that guide goes beyond now and next on Saorview but programme info. is minimal compared to Freeview. This is strange in the sense that my Sony idtv which only receives sound and no picture of Saorview channels due to not being MPEG compliant has full programme info. Also if I set timer record for both Saorview and Freeview only Freeview will record. Yet if I bypass guide and manually record both Freeview and Saorview at same time both record. I e mailed Sony and their very helpful reply indicated that with 2 different systems operating there would be 'limited features on the guides' and I needed to ensure firmware was updated which I have at present. They also indicated they would be passing on my concerns. Personally I'm hoping that a software upgrade will also be able to fix the timer problem. Other problem I'm having re Saorview channels is the order in which they appear i.e. RTE1 is last and RTE1+1 is first and unfortunately Sony PVR doesn't permit you to reorder the channels.

Just thought I'd try another retune with the country set to UK this time. This time Saorview channels were stored in the 800's as expected.

Same issues with the EPG though for Saorview stations. Only basic programme naming in the EPG with full info for current programme and next programme only.

Looking for programme info beyond now & next you get the "This event data is invalid" message when pressing the info button in the EPG.

Freeview channels once again had info for programmes beyond now & next.

Try setting Norway as the country and see what happens.

Interesting results evilivor! With country set to Norway I'm now getting full programme info out to the early morning of Tuesday 6 December. No event information after that. Also lost RTE MHEG text and receiving the analogue teletext instead.

    Wonder why?

Yes, funny that innit. It's obviously a software issue.

Yes. Once again an interesting correspondence you had with Sony. Might fire off an email to Saorview. Should this set be Saorview certified if the EPG doesn't appear to be working correctly with country set to Ireland?

Whats the model number of your Sony TV if you don't mind me asking?

    Mine is a Kdl 22ex320.

I emailed Saorview directly and they passed the details on to Sony who reverted to me. Might be worth doing the same - there is obviously a flaw in the certification process.

Country Profiling. Most Tvs are Pan European. Picking a country during set up turns on and turns off certain parts of software according to the country's specification.

You are seeing this in Norway seetings - full EIT but no MHEG5 (only Ireland and Uk use MHEG5 so the engine is turned off) as they use MHP, another middleware engine.

As regards the full EIT not showing, RTE's Headend has a PSI/SI server for generating the EIT data which is speced to Nordig 2 standard. Norway are Nordig as well as far as I know. Regradless, AFAIK extended EIT data (not just basic now next and no programme info) is mandatory in a receiver but not as a broadcast (but RTE do broadcast it, not just doing the basics).

As Ivor says its software. They need to amend the country profile set up for Ireland to mimic the Norway EIT display but with MHEG5 and possibly other flags enabled.

How this got past Terracom though.........

(As a matter of interest, Did you test with Sweden Country profile ?????) ;)

Just tried that. Same as Norway? EPG info out to Tuesday. Older style text again.

Updated the software on my Saorview approved Sony this evening and since then the Information is now present for all programmes in the EPG - looks like they have finally implemented the fix.

Credit where it's due and all that.

    That's encouraging to see :)

Running the latest firmware from December just gone (PKG4.108EUL-0108) on the Bravia KDL-32EX403 but it hasn't fixed the issue.

Is that an older non-approved model? I haven't tried updating my older Sony yet but am not too hopeful.

I thanked the guy in Sony I dealt with tonight and also asked him if the update could be applied to older compliant but non-approved Tvs.

We'll see how we get on.

    Hi evilivor

was this the piece of software you downloaded and then uploaded to your tv?

    http://www.sony.ie/support/en/product/KDL-32EX524/downloads/FW_Bravia_3807EUA

According to the page: "This file updates your TV set firmware to version PKG3.807EUA"

Have downloaded it and updated my TV (Sony Ex524 series). However still only getting now & next info in the Saorview EPG. Before the upload beyond now and next info, I used to get a "This event data is invalid" message in the info screen. Now I am getting a blank screen.

Wonder why it didnt work for me since the download is meant both an ex320 tv as well as an ex524 series Sony?

My tv has wifi built in so in the tv menu I went to Product Support, then I went to software update and, after a download, it rebooted and it all just seemed to work

Sorry I can't be of more help.

No problem. I down loaded mine via the Sony site and when uploaded the software via a USB stick.

    Working now Ivor! Cheers!

The software update on the sony.ie site (dated 22/12/2012) is not the latest update available.

Connected my TV to the internet via an ethernet connection and another software download occurred. TV software version is now PKG3.904EUA. The software on the website only updates the TV to version PKG3.807EUA.

Saorview EPG is now displaying info for programmes for 7 days.

Indeed it is - from pre-Saorview certification days.

Well done on getting that issue sorted Eillivor. Now Pannasonic could learn a thing or two from this thread! I had been a fan of Panny television kit for some years, but after reading the posts here on the boards over the past few months, I've gone off them, big time! Just last Wednesday I took delivery of a shiny new Sony 32EX 723. No Saorview yet unfortunately, probably have to wait till ASO for that. It's a lovely set though, and even with my slow BB connection it seems to stream YouTube quite well, haven't tried BBC iPlayer yet, still 'playing' with my new 'toy', so my weekend is pretty much book up right now. Oh by the way I tried changing the country settings to Ireland just to do another scan on Ch. 53 (Claremont Carn), and moments afterwards it 'found' a software update, which I accepted and it installed and restarted.
So whenever we eventually get Saorview up in this neck of the woods, I hope that that'll be the EPG ready to go.

Check the Software version on the TV. If its PKG3.904EUA (version on my EX524), you should be sorted for the 7 day Saorview EPG.

EDIT: Software update PKG3.904EUA is now up on the Sony website. Been there since 18th January.

Got a reply back from Sony regarding my older, compliant but non-Saorview approved tv and was told that although it is compliant, it’s a different chassis, so the new software is not compatible and, as the set was never approved, it won’t be supported retrospectively for the Now/Next fix.
