Any Mazda 6 mechanics or generally knowledgable blokes?

After all the great advice I've received on this forum from looking at Octavia's to Volvo's I'm going to go view a few Mazda 6's over the next couple of weeks. Is there anyone here who knows a lot about them that would be willing to give me some advice on a few that I'm looking at via pm (don't want a bargain sniped from under me by some heartless fiend :D)?

    Cheers.

The petrol models are one of the most reliable trouble free cars out there.

Some where recalled for power steering issues, thats about all I can think of other then the petrols are a little thirsty compared to other 1.8's(assuming your looking at those)

I'm looking at a 1.8, not that I've ruled out the 2l, just that the one that has particularly caught my eye is a 1.8. I've got the list of recalls from Honestjohn which I'm going to match against the service history. Have you done much work on these before?

Is it the 1st generation model your looking at?
I did a head gasket repair on one once, but that was only because they had damaged the rad and not realised. Other then that, all I've ever had to do on them is normal servicing and replacing general wear items.

I'd have bought one as a daily in an instant if only the diesel engine was any good:(

If you could find an estate model you'd have a very rare car in this country too...

My friend were looking for mazda 6 1.8 petrol also... i was acting as mechanic, so were looking on bad points. number of them around 2k euro, 99-01. we looked at two cars.... silver one was 01 for 2100, fully packed.. cruise control, abs, radio steering control, also something else. ride was smooth, but somehow engine were week from low revs, also typical - rust on rear arches, and when we were lookin on car it was dirty, then i cleaned bit between rear bumper and door, silver color differs... same driver door with wing.. when we asked (female owner), she said, she know nothing about cars... that it when she got... so we walk away, second car was 99 for 1800, silver also... a bit rust on rear arches, very plain, no extras, also internal panels were bit damaged, would see that somebody with screwdriver were trying take them off... when were asking owner why is that, he said he were taking off hand free system, so it went like that, and also airbag light were on.. but it some times flashed, some times went off, than again came on, owner said, that it happens over some bad wiring connectors under front pasanger seat, kinda regular things for mazda.
so we gave up for mazdas, and friend bought honda prelude 01 ... cant remember engine,i think its 2 or 2.2 if not mistaken :) ... really nice car

Mazda 6 didn't exist til 02, I think you are thinking of the 626 Mar4ix.

A 6 petrol estate would be high on my list of next semi-bangernomics, was very happy with my 626 while I had it.
