just got word today that our vec who normally pays dec payment on the 15th is now not paying it till the 30th
    major bummer :(
am only subbing and my 1st paycheck went on clearing (some) of my overdrawn overdraft!! was hoping to be nearly out of the red by xmas not further into my overdraft!
oh well - suppose it means janurary won't be stretched like it usually it is!
and it is good to have work finally so shouldn't be moaning too much but i know some people at work were really banking on the payment on the 15th to fund santa/xmas etc.
just wondering if anyone else has come across this? (i'm with cork county vec)

The 30th December is very unusual. Most VECs clear their payroll around the 22nd or 23rd before everyone heads off for Christmas.

Get your Principal to contact your Head Office on your behalf. It wouldn't be unknown for a VEC to give an advance in hardship cases.

Our vec told us this months ago

spurious - i'll manage with the overdraft but i know others today weren't best pleased to put it mildly - sheet in sec's office has paydate down for the 15th and i know the p/t sec rang today on behalf of some staff members but no joy.
The driver - from what i gather sec said the letter that she put up in staff room only came in yesterday so today was first we heard.
i'm just grateful i got paid last week - it was a bit weird cos it didnt' go through till some stage over the weekend - checked bank fri lunchtime and no pay had gone through so i thought mega bummer i'd be waiting till dec paydate - boy am i glad now i got paid!!
think its a mad system overall though - i had to work almost two months before getting paid - paying out for childcare and travel expenses in the meantime - i'm just lucky that its so close to home - last year i was paying out over 80quid a week in petrol - if i was doing that now i literally couldn't afford to work!

Its the forms.... those pink, dark green, light green, peach and yellow (VTOS) weekly forms that are the killer!
Its insane, the vp prints out our cover, we then have to handwrite it which then has to be checked again by two other people in the school against the printout before its sent off presumably for the VEC to input into their computer. Why on earth this antiquated system is not computerised I will never understand!! I estimate that its takes at least 8 man hours to process my forms including me writing them in the first place

    musicmental
i don't have to fill out any forms - presume vp does them
    sounds a bit mad!

thank God our VEC is all automated. We got that memo by email in Sept I think and again in Oct and then on paper a few weeks ago.

I'm so jealous!!! Kildare VEC haven't it automated yet

Co. Cork VEC has everything automated, including payments, invoices etc. All wages are done on spreadsheets and control sheets. Only paperwork is our own when keeping track of it until submission

I'm under Co Cork VEC and there has been a number of posters up in the staffroom since start of November in red writing stating that the Dec payment wasn't until 30th December. The reason for it was that people wouldn't have to wait six weeks between paychecks - some staff reckon its nearly better because then they literally wouldn't have the money to overspend on Christmas.

@Musicmental85 thats nuts with the paperwork - I'm thankful our VP logs our hours for us!

Usually monthly but many seem to offer a mid monthly advance on request

Would that be the start or end of the month? Thanks :)

When I had a mid-monthly payment in the old City of Dublin VEC, it was around the 15th or so, the rest being in the normal end of the month payment. I remember having to request it formally and it was quite a bit less than half my salary. This was in the days when part-timers were paid monthly and with a month in arrears.

Ya its not far off my half salary but I imagine if you are teaching longer then it would be a good bit less. Mines around the 15th too. You do have to formally request it but a phonecall was sufficient for my VEC

That makes sense so you can budget accordingly . Only waiting for a days sub pay but still :)

My VEC (ETB) went to fortnightly pay over a year ago. It's not on a specific day in the month, but literally every second Friday, and its the same amount each time. This month it will be the 14th and 28th, but by the time August comes around, there will be three payments in the month - 1st, 15th and 29th.

If paid forghnigtly you can't be paid on the same date each month as there is not 24 fortnights in a year there is 26.08 or something like that, hence why the dates do not stay the same each month
