College Football Team

Ok I know the NFL inside out and support the Charger.
Dont know why but have never watched College football.
Watched the big game this year between Alabama & LSU.
Enjoyed it even though the skill level is no where near the NFL in my opinion, but still really enjoyed it.

So simply I need a team, as I said I support the Chargers, that came from support the steelers and the Dan rooney working class thing going on liked that but then LT came along and just fell in love with the way the Chargers played.

So dont have to be a great team, and it also can be.
I like both offence and defence.
Team dosnt have to have a huge history (like the chargers dont) but would be a plus.
Love the crowds at college games so good supporters be a plus.

    Suggestions be great Thanks.

There was a couple of threads you should give a read to also from the start of the season about College ball might give you some ideas

    .

No offense but what do you expect ? Thats like saying the standard of the Siguirdson Cup in Hurling isnt up to the standard of the All Ireland.

How can you try and compare a bunch of college students against the elite players of the NFL ?

Besides which I thought the standard of defense in the LSU Alabama game was exceptionally high. With probably 5 of 6 of them likely to end up first round draft picks.

    Anyway rant over.

You could always support San Diego State if you wanted to keep it in the same city that is. Not a great team but one of the best in the Mountain West.

If you want a team with a great History then Id suggest Michigan or Notre Dame.

If you want a team that is in the hunt fo rthe Nationa championship more often than not then Ohio State, Alabama, Oaklahoma, Texas, or LSU would be my suggestion.

If you like high powered offense then its got to be Houston or Hawaii if you like QB's throwing the ball all day long

If you like teams that run the ball down your throat all day long id suggest Wisconsin.

If you like defense perhaps Nebraska

    of course there only suggestions.

To be fair some Sigerson teams would beat inter county teams ;)
But your right, and I was very impressed with the LSU defence, maybe thats why maybe was bit disappointed with rest. For example give that kicker long kicks when clearly he was never going to get them.

    Your two comments great help.
Il read up on the links.
    Thanks again.

yep the kickers were shocking in that game really really bad. mind you the punter was good :D

even the best college teams will have a number of players that wont make it to the NFL. And kickers dont normally get scholarships and are walk ons so the kicking on the best teams can be god awful.

My suggestion on these kind of threads in any sport is just watch a few games and let a team pick you. If you watch the last week of this season and the bowl games after Christmas some team will catch your eye and you'll end up rooting for them

Just seen a video in one of the links of Ohio state and Michigan Amazing!!!!
Im getting the NCAA football game that should help.
Will do that Jack, probably best idea and keep an eye on the teams im thinking about.

Really like the Michigan and Ohio state rivalry.
Thinking of the two above, SD State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Alabama just for that stadium.

Seen the really short odds on Paddy Power are LSU and Alabama really that far ahead of everyone else this year?

Another thing il have to do is figure out the bowl system.

    .

the odds are short becasue although not official yet they are both almost shoe ins for the national championship game which is decided by a bunch of computers and voters on who the best teams are

    so the odds reflect that

and yes they are streets ahead this year anyway.

So the champion game aint decided by who has the best record?
This the main reason didnt get into college football while I get into the NFL.
Couldn't figure out the system, kinda figured out that some teams where randomly chosen for some bowl games.

Trying to figure out the meaning of life would be an easier start :pac:

Heres a link with many of the permutations. The first 5 bowl games are the ones that matter, the rest are really just there as a moneyspinner for the NCAA

    no.

Just ask Boise, Houston, Auburn, TCU or Hawaii (and Penn State aswell I think) who all went unbeaten in regular seasons and didnt make the championship game.

pandoras box is well and truely open

Id argue that the Cotton bowl is a better game than the Orange Bowl and is a better one to win.

The orange bowl is nothing bowl without the BCS hype attached to it !

And this is the main reason I find it hard to get truly invested in College Football. Its a ludicrous system.

here here nobody likes the system except the bowl organisers and the NCAA cest la vie

the sooner we get a playoff the better.

if we can jsut get super conferences off the ground 8 26 team conferences with the conference winners in a playoff that would do nicely.

    I can dream

It is a ludicrous system, but this year I'm thankful for it. The thought of Houston in a title game against LSU is hilarious. It would be like Mike Tyson vs Gok Wan.

Playoffs would be fine, but people who think that going undefeated should mean you warrant serious consideration for a title game are idiots.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,067 ✭✭✭tallaghtoutlaws

Honestly I have always wanted to see the playoffs and for this reason alone:

To shut up fringe teams with piss easy schedules moaning about not making the BCS. There are so many teams in the SEC and Big Ten who would beat these guys on a good day and you don't see them moaning about not making the BCS game. How many times has the bigger divisions had 3 or 4 teams lose one game and knock them out of the BCS running and the team that beat them is one of the other teams in contention.

A playoff system would only go down the same road as it is now. The obvious two best teams in the College football go toe to toe. Bama lose to LSU and people questioned their BCS potential? Fook that. LSU have showed they are the best and Bama are the clear 2nd best. And without naming the fringe teams they know who they are I would rate at least 6 or 7 teams ahead of them if I had the TO ranking system based on common sense and strength of opponents.

. Bama lose to LSU and people questioned their BCS potential? Fook that. .

this is a prime example of how fooked up the system is

    LSU ranked 1
    Bama ranked 2

That means in peoples eyes LSU should beat Bama but it should be close. It goes to OT couldnt be closer yet Bama move down.

A bit of fooking cop on people....

now the best two teams will play in the NC game this year but that isnt always the case becasue the system is just stupid.

I dont think anybody is saying Houston deserves a shot at the title game including Houston.

as it is they will be mullered in the sugar bowl.

that said wouldnt it be nice to think that a team running the table would at least get an opportunity to be in a playoff with a chance to prove the doubters wrong.

Believe it or not, there are quite a few bloggers championing Houston as being deliberately and unfairly ignored when it comes to the title came. Some bloggers who I really like too, which is disappointing.

some people just like attention even if its for the wrong reason. I would lose all respect for anybody who is genuinely trying to tell me Houston is being unfairly ignored.

I could accept the argument in previous years for a Boise or TCU with quality wins against ranked BCS schools but a one man team like Houston eek.

I mean Im not a defensive mastermind but I could coach a SEC defense to shut down case keenum.

Bump and run man coverage remove the bubble screen game and they have got very little else.

    Texas A&M Fighting Aggies
Departing the Big 12 for greener pastures in the SEC. Fired head coach Mike Sherman last week and depending on who his replacement is will determine if their contenders or not. Great tradition, great atmosphere at Kyle Field and great Thanksgiving Day rivalry with the tea sips of The University of Texas.
