    Hi
Quick query, start up business dealing with a new supplier from outside the EC. In the last delivery he split the order, one part came in via another customer no Vat paid.
The other delivery he changed the amount on the invoice to a lower amount, hence not the full vat was paid. Total cost was less then 3k. How do i sort it out with the books? Any ideas welcome

Hi, are you registered for VAT here in Ireland? If so you should be receiving these goods from the supplier outside the EU, VAT free and then self accounting for the VAT on your Irish VAT return.

No. He pays vat at the point of entry when the goods are declared at customs if the supplier is from outside the EU. He can then claim back this VAT on his VAT return.

Of courxe, apologies, was looking at supply of services all day and brain fried, never switched over to goods!!!
Quick other question on VAT, you know the revenue concession on outlay for a client, my questions is could I rely on this for a non VAT registered rental company to pass on Utility bills to a tenant in order for tenant to reclaim the VAT on these bills. If not the VAT on these bills will be locked in to the non registered company (and charge out to tenant will be total bill) as tenant does not want to receive bills directly?
    Thanks

    Hi

I would not have thought so. Once it goes through the unregistered person they cannot give a VAT invoice. So it is locked in.

Be very careful with VAT on property. There is potential claw back of VAT on the purchase price in certain circumstances.

    Kind Regards

    Dbran
