Buying a laptop in the US, any suggestions?

Heading to New York for 10 days holiday and I was thinking I might snap up a bargain while I'm there.

I have a crappy wee netbook at the minute, handy enough for the odd bit of internet browsing etc but when I move house in a few months I was going to get a decent desktop PC for general home use, just Office, streaming media etc, no gaming needs. I had budgeted maybe €500.

But I'm told that I could get a great bargain in the US when I'm there, I've seen the likes of Dell, HP etc with 4GB RAM and 640GB hard drive for as little as $450 (€340) and I was thinking that I would be better off getting a good laptop instead of a desktop.

Anyone brought in a laptop from the US before? I've been looking on bestbuy and jr.com but I'm sure there's plenty of places to look.

Best Buy is a great store, I've bought stuff there in Chicago and I'm sure theres a few in NYC.. You will have no problem getting a good laptop for €500

Found a few good laptops for around $370, but then add tax, $100 for international warranty and $120 for office, and it's suddenly not so cheap.
