    Hi folks

014763500 is the number they're listing. For about an hour now and 30minutes yesterday i've tried and got nothing. It rings and rings and then rings out. These eejits havent even set up a voicemail or other automated services.

I was ill on my sign-on day and was wondering when i can come in to sign on. My signon day is a tuesday (just in case anyone was in the same circumstances)

can anyone help me out? as seen as our government departments are so ineffeciently run. (btw, i'll work any job there for 50% of the wages if you want to save some money)

    G
    me angry.

so about 90 minutes later, someone decided to answer. If anyone else is having the same problem, the answer was "I can sign on between 10-11am on monday" and this weeks money is still available in the post office.

    Pretty standard procedure then

If you're caught in future, call your local http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/ centre.
They know what goes on and could have answered this question

Obviously it's best to get the info direct but as you say, some offices don't answer the phone

I happened to have been in this exact social welfare office today, there is no signing there today, and there are no queues to speak of. Why on Earth are these people still not answering phones?

Surely , as is at least the case in every office I have ever worked, answering the telephone takes priority over paper work?

agreed, used to work tech support back in the ole days, phone rings, you drop everything (ya know, cause it's a service industry)

I like to think of the civil service as a giant septic tank. The department of social protection is the lowest tier of filtration where the chunkiest of **** goes to die.

This is the way it's going to be from now on or get worse. Less staff working in the public service = less staff to answer phones and actually deal with the public, etc. Just another symptom of the cuts we are all facing.

Bishop street has always been like this I can recall at least a dozen instances of when they wouldn't answer the phone.

The latest was when I tried to close my claim as I had gotten work took 2 days to get through and then received 2 calls the next week asking why I hadn't signed on.

Will I turn it off and turn it on again? ;)

    You're getting way too general

Depends on the office, Ballyfermot has the lovely spacious building and they are always quick to answer calls and deal with questions :)

But then for another example there is Nenagh and most bookie shops have bigger offices and more staff.
So people have to queue outside in the wind and rain and passerby's and all the students see them, not good :(
