This isnt the first recession and i doubt it'll be the last.Ireland isnt the only country in trouble, its a near global recession.

Things here for the unemployed are pretty good, compare our welfare payments to other nations-the ones that do have welfare, and maybe then you will appreciate it.

Maybe you should read up on what's happening in Ireland a bit more. Not only are we in a recession but we also have a massive hangover debt from the banking bailout. We've never been in this position before. Bank liabilities alone are 310% of GDP.

Because the Government are the people responsible for balancing the books.Yea lots of other countries are in a recession at the moment but our country had the greatest ever economic boom in its history and through serious bad management pi$$ed it all against the wall. With a responsible government, yes we might have had an increase in unemployment but nothing compared to the scale of unemployment and Debt in the country at present. There is no way out of this mess we are so much in debt. Its now a classic case of robbing peter to pay paul. Its comical and anyone who is clued in can see we're finished. You cant get blood from a stone.

yes carefully planned and executed Market bubble/crash leads to recession!!

some youthful person thinks the fact we've had to pay the bankers debts before we should just do it again?!?

what happens when there's no money to fund the great social welfare you speak of?

Simple people are stupid and rarely know what they are talking about. People will blame the current government for things not of their doing.

Once a government gets in power they sudden realise the constraints of reality and start back tracking on what they promised.

The reality is for some it doesn't matter who you vote for the government always get in and the government are to blame for everything.

I am still amazed at how the green party got blamed for so much that was voted on before they came to any power. Greatest trick ever pulled and people lapped it up.
