    Hi

Was just looking at buying the Saorview box when I saw this:

    http://www.tvtrade.ie/satellite-combo-receiver-xoro.html

which claims to be able to receive the UK channels also. I'm guessing that's only in areas where the UK signal is available?

This is for my parents house in Mayo and all we have is the basic RTE 1, 2 & TG4 (no TV3) so I'm presuming that's still all we'll be able to receive regardless of what set top box I buy?? In which case I'm better off going for something like this:

    Thanks in advance

Looking at specs it seems that it will do both, Saorview using and aerial, and Free to Air channels using a satellite dish. You will need both aerial and dish for your purpose.

The Xoro does get the Irish TV & Radio but is not Saorview compatible.

It's even less compatible with Freesat (UK FTA satellite). You are far better with a Freesat HD box for UK satellite and Saorview approved box or TV for Irish TV.

The combo boxes will receive Irish TV and UK TV (aerial + dish) but are a budget compromise solution where you give up a lot to have 1 instead of two remotes (two boxes). You'll have remotes anyway for TV and DVD. The advantage of one remote is overstated compared to the lack of proper compatibility to Saorview and Freesat HD.

    Hi

So I've decided to get the "Xoro DTV-M5 Irish Digital TV Receiver (Mheg5)":

    http://www.tvtrade.ie/digital-tv.html

Apparently if you connect up an external hard drive, you can play and pause live TV (i.e. "sky plus"). Any recommendations on that front? I was looking at this one in DID as it seems to be the cheapest 1TB going:

    http://www.did.ie/Product/DESKTOP-HARD-DRIVE-1TB-USB-30-35581/18993/28018.0.5

    Will this be ok?

    Thanks in advance :)
