Hi Folks - anyone know approximately how much membership at the Stephens Green Hibernian Club would be. Its just out of curiosity for sh!ts n'giggles.

I know the usual answer is if you have to ask, then you probably cant afford - which is fine... but how much is that :)

(Couldnt be arsed calling them... probably too much BS involved in even getting a simple numerical answer).

I seem to remember a few years ago someone telling me membership was by invite only and had a lot of WW1 and WW2 servicemen as members.

I doubt there is WW1 veterans in the club, afaik they are pretty much an extinct race now a day. I would say that Walter is right that membership is as much invitation as subscription.

It depends on age and address as there is junior and out of town membership.
but €1200 would be one price.

If you ring they would be more than happy to talk with you about membership.
It is a very open club.

    Regards

Passed by this a couple of times and wondered what it is. Has anyone any ideas? I have a picture in my head of Phileas Fogg and groups of old men sitting in arm chairs with a smoking pipe sticking out beneath a handlebar moustache.:D

Why would someone be a member of a place like this? Just out of curiosity

I presume it's because it's a place to go to socialise and network which isn't a pub or golf club or bridge club or chess club or tennis club. It's just a club club.

Also I would imagine that if people are frequently in Dublin centre on business it's nice to have a nice place to go if you're waiting around for the day on meetings / transport etc. They are pitching it as a 'home away from home' for this reason, I presume.

There's also the Residence club on Stephens Green which seems to be aimed at a slightly different clientelle.
