What browser for Gmail and tabs?

    Hi guys.

Just got an Android recently. I had an iPhone before.

I’m wondering what browsers you guys are using. I’ve tried Chrome, Opera, Dolphin, and Firefox.

I can’t get Gmail to display properly in Firefox or Opera, and unfortunately, they are the two I prefer. Dolphin seems a bit bloated and fugly, and I can’t stand the way the deafault browser switches tabs. I would be happy to use FF or Op, if only they displayed Gmail properly.

Does anyone know of a way to get Gmail to display the proper modern mobile interface in Firefox or Opera.

Or indeed, does anyone know an alternative way to switch between tabs with the default (“chrome”?) browser?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I have a Desire HD.

I would rather not rely on the dedicated Gmail app, as I like using Gmail as part of bigger browsing sessions.

With FF and OP, I’m just getting the really basic looking version for whatever reason, like so:

The version I like, and the version I get with Chrome/Dolphin looks like this:

Are you using Dolphin 7? I installed it last week and it looks a hell of a lot better than the previous version I had. It's as fast as any other browser I've tried too.

Have you tried Miren browser? that's the one i use. Good for tabbed browsing, haven't tried gmail on it though.

I get the newer looking one in the stock browser on HTC Desire (Dont know if that is what your calling the Chrome Browser) - Didnt do anything special to get it but I have the 'Mobile View' ticked in my settings and cleared out my cache before trying it
Also gives me an option at the bottom of the page to
'View Gmail in: Mobile / Older Version / Desktop'

    Hope that helps

IMHO the Gmail App is way better - lets you do lots of things that the browser version wont like Sync certain folders, proper notifications, Signatures, etc

Hey thanks for the replies. I got something sorted in the end, i.e a browser that displays the proper version of mobile gmail but also has elegant tabbed browsing....

    Boat Browser.

Doesn't seem very popular but I love it so far.

It’s very minimal and elegant and doesn’t have crazy shading all over the place like some of the other browsers.

Was using that browser last week and found it very like safari on the iphone.
Not bad really but not very popular as you said.

You mentioned you have Google Chrome running on your Android phone -
I was just wondering how too got it on there ?
It's still not out of development AFAIK.

Is it just the browser that came on the phone maybe ?

Yeah I meant the "stock browser". I thought it was Chrome, but apparently Chrome proper is yet to come. I think.
