    Hey guys.

I left home to travel solo for a year in June. At that point I was at gym 5 times a week..had a really strict diet and was probably under-eating. Im 5.8 and was at 60 kg.

Since June though I have binged totally. Food has kind of become my travel partner and if Im ever bored I just eat...full packets of biscuits go in no time. I keep telling myself "this is my last day of eating crap" but then I end up going back to it after maybe 2/3 days of good eating. Its even more expensive to be eating crap so thats not the issue. I am really active and I walk up to 8Km a day, swim, hike, scuba etc. Im now at 80Kg..and seeing photos of myself Im sickened!!

I had worked so hard for good body and now in 5 months Ive undone a few years good work. I need help and advise on how to change this around. Im even thinking on a super strict diet til Xmas..cutting calories down hugely. To be honest I may have been bordering on eating disorder before I left and had people comment that I looked ill and too thin...but now its gone to the other extreme and people say..wow cant believe you put on so much weight.

Any help/advise or anything you think could help me would be great...

    Really appreciate any advise
    Thanks

At 5"8 and 12 stone you are just slightly overweight. From the way you talk about eating whole packets of biscuits at a time i'd imagine if you just cut out the crap you'd easily see a difference in a few weeks. You seem to have issues around food and this talk off going on a super strict diet is not healthy either. You need to get out of this "yoyo diet" mindframe and think of it more in terms of a healthy lifestyle, it's a change of lifestyle not a diet, it should be long term. The GI diet could be good for you especially as you are so active. You'll never keep to a healthy weight if you keep going from one extreme to another the odd treat and everything in moderation is fine, but eating whole packets of biscuits in one sitting is pure binging. You're also putting yourself at serious risk of diabetes OP. Best of luck OP;)

You've answered your own question really.
To begin with you were under weight and under eating. This was an unreal and unsustainable weight.
Now you are on your own a lot and "crap food" is your friend. Rather than cut it out completely try to cut down. Cutting out is creating an emotional battle that you are in constant struggle with. Then after two days you lose the battle and end up going on a binge. It's much like a smoker trying to quit. You are clearly active enough to burn off a reasonable calorie intake. So slow down when you have the pack of biscuits, actually take time to enjoy the flavour and stop punishing yourself. And listen to your brain when it tells you you've had enough.

Long term you want balance between healthy lifestyle and diet, how boring would that be if you could never allow yourself a treat.

Now go and enjoy seeing the world.

Hi OP. You already posted this in Health and Fitness which is probably the more appropriate place for it, so Im going to close this one.
