Cant get my head around this, but do a lot of putters on the market have closed faces?
I cant see why a putter would have a closed face, but i when to mcguirks a couple of weeks back and i noticed some just don't sit square and some do.

    Is it my imagination?

one of the common faults with amateurs putting is that what they think is square is in fact open resulting in a bad contact
if you can see the face of you're putter when you address the ball that's not good, check it and see,
imo the closed putter face is simply helping the amatuer to correct the problem above, there are so many different variations of hosel types/positions that something that may suit you won't suit me,
