I bought a Towbar second hand and of the old fittings the four of the below metal tubes are badly rusted and need to be replaced.

    5bpb1z.jpg

    - They are about 50mm long and 14mm wide and act as sleeves to 2 110 X 10mm & 2 90 X 10mm Hex head bolts and seem to serve to separate/space the bolts from the car body.

Even if I knew the correct name it would be a good starting point so I could search ebay etc. But ideally I'd like to buy in person tomorrow and fit at the weekend.

    - P.S. - I'm not sure if they have a load bearing role, was thinking of going to a plumbing supplies co. and just cutting down an equivalent diamter and thickness pipe - but not sure if they need to be a certain grade/tensile/structural quality etc. (?)

Any help or advice appreciated - Thanks!

I'm quiet sure they are just that sleeves. I know in my pajero the time I fitted the towbar I lost one of the sleeves which look very like what you have pictured there, this one was inside a box section and the securing bolt passed through it and into the captive nit on the chassis ,I just knocked one out on a lathe and fitted that with no problems since. However every car is different and a call to mc cabe tow bars might be in your interest.

If they are only sleeves and the bolt passes through them, surface rust wont be a big problem, a wire brush will clean them up. But if you want them replaced, bring one into an engineering company (any place that makes metal gates, stairs etc etc would probably do) ask them to make you 4 new ones.
