    Hi,

I'm taking a day trip to Belfast from Dublin a few weeks. I've noticed that you can buy good value online day return tickets Belfast-Dublin online on the Enterprise website but you don't seem to be able to select the opposite journey on that site, or find value fares on the Irish Rail site. Is there any way to book the Dublin-Belfast train journey cheap online?

You are unlikely to find cheap fares starting from Dublin, IE advertise cheap online fares if you book far enough in advance but they are usually snapped up by a couple of early birds. Most of the fares on the website seem to be €20 each way plus the booking fee and that is going the full 28days ahead.

They are there for most Belfast trains. Standard tickets are €40 for 1 day/€55 for monthly return while most online tickets are €20 single with many €10 on offer.

Yeah, I noticed that indeed. There is a handful of E10 tickets each way but they tend to be at inconvenient times naturally! :) Such a shame cheaper day return tickets can't be found. I'll be bussing it methinks and actually, I think the train journey isn't much shorter than the bus, unlike train bus comparison times in Ireland. I do love train travel though. Ah well. :)

Yeah, spotted the timetable but couldn't find what the fare was (I LOATHE the Bus Eireann website). Do you know what the fare is? :)

Oh, AFAIK, it's not possible to book cross-border Bus Eireann tickets online.

I booked a €10 ticket yesterday for the 13:20 train on Friday. Can't go wrong really. All other fares were €20 one way, didn't matter how close or far away the dates were. But you can't book more than 28 days in advance.

Keep an eye on this thread in bargain alerts, every tuesday and saturday they release a code for a 15% discount on the train. You can only use the code to book by midnight on those days but the tickets can be for any day (within 28 days).

Occasionally a Facebook discount of 20% will also appear there.
