I just received a new iphone 4 today through my gadget insurance. I was with Vodafone at the time of claiming but as it took so long I switched to 02 a few wks ago and got an iphone 4s .... So I presumed the iphone 4 I recd today would be sim-free as it came from a phone supplier and not any particular carrier.I put my 02 sim in just to see if it worked and it says 'no service'.. I plan on selling this iphone 4 so am not sure if it set to a particular network.
Is it supposed to say 'no service' when you first turn them on ??

Dont assume that because it is an insurance replacement that it will be factory unlocked. test with a Vodafone sim.

Have you considered asking the issuer?

Did you try having connected to Itunes with the O2 SIM, but if the Iphone 4 was never unlock on Itunes by apple the replacement most probably also be lock to vodafone, did you try putting with a Vodafone micro sim on it?

If it was officially unlock you can try contacting the the gadget insurance company and try to get them to

I don't have a Vodafone micro sim as my phone was stolen and I switched to 02 then.

The issuers are a co called Trade box in the uk according to my insurer.

Bring it to a local VF store. They'll pop a SIM in and you will know immediately.

if you never unlocked your vodafone iphone chances are you don't have the unlock, its based on your itunes account not the phone itself. Apple had my 3gs when my unlock came through as it broke after i ordered the unlock, it still applied to the replacement phone i got even with a different imei!

are you payg or bill with o2?
