No you cannot make a claim for jobseekers until your first day of unemployment. One thing you could do is if your P45 is not available on the day you finish is make sure you get a letter from your employer stating that you have been made redundant.

would be better if you went in to the welfare office and get all the forms have them all filled in post them the day you get let go just maybe be little quicker

    can be downloaded from here
    http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Pages/jajbapplications.aspx

UP1 for a new claim. UP6 if you have claimed before.

Also read section on means of identity and proof of address.

You have to go in person to make a jobseekers claim.

If its a Jobseekers Benefit claim, its likely going to be processed quickly enough anyway, although with Christmas coming up every penny in before then I'm sure will help.

If you're stuck for money in the meantime, you can go to your Community Welfare Officer and apply for Supplementary Welfare Allowance while your claim is pending.
