Really need some help - where can i source a safety nut for my golf mk5? Is there anywhere to order online? Pretty stuck with a slow release puncture. Thanks.

They aren't all the same for security reasons. There are 12 or so different types and there is no way of telling which type your car has fitted unless you have the original box they came in. So your best bet in my opinion would be to buy a new set from VW (about €25) and then bring the car to someone who has locking wheel nut removal tools and have the old ones removed and disgarded.

I think that's probably good advice George, thanks. Would be great to get rid of them altogether. I just hoped there was an easy way to get the right bit but suppose that would defeat the purpose!

Had to remove the lock nuts on the father in-laws stilo, the way i did it was i went to Mc Quilans not sure about the name, but a place that sells cheap single sockets as you will be only using it once as the lock nut won't be able to be removed from it.Buy a socket that will fit, but be tight on the nut then use a lump hammer to get the socket on the locknut good and tight then use a breaker bar to loosen the nut.
    Hope that helps.

a vw garage should have the full set of keys. they might remove the lock nuts for you

Probably best not to take a lump hammer to it when VW will do it for free, or at minimal cost. New nuts however, will cost if you don't want to buy the key.

I would say any tyre centre (any "decent" one that is) can remove the lock nut for you. Most garages would have the tool too.

I went to the fiat dealership and was told another key could not be supplied and if i wanted them removed to bring the car to their garage and have the nuts removed for €30 a nut,so i only spent €24 on the sockets and had no problems removing them.

    but thats fiat :p:p:p

op try any vw seat skoda or audi garage near to you. they all use nearly the same wheel locking studs. when i got my leon there was no key with it but i was able to het them off with a large spline tool.

also if any of your friends, family or neighbours have a vag car try their lock nut. you might get lucky and one might have the same lock nut
