Conundrum, Who are these SLRHut Guys anyway

    My first post!! ;)

Was wondering if anyone has used the SLRHut Guys?

I am going to buy a 7D. My instinct is to go with a known supplier but the price they are quoting is too hard to ignore:

    http://slrhut.co.uk/product/ID255C5/nextag

A mear €600 less than the rest. There are no valid complaints on the web other than the "gray goods" and "conspiracy theories" type. I cant seem to find someone who has been genuinely screwed by these guys. (pardon the search for the negative approach)

I am assuming I will get stung with import duty but still good... 7d is semi pro so they have worldwide support from canon in the warrenty period.

    Conundrum!!

    Matthew

(Please no "patriotic" flames. I am already very guilty of this:-)

Why would you get stung for duty? Firstly there is no duty on digital cameras and secondly, even if there were, if you buy from the UK then the vat and duty (where applicable) have already been paid.
Do a search and look for reviews of the site, there are loads.

    beep...beep...beep...BEEP...BEEP...BEEP

Registering level 7 on the shill detector Captain.

EDIT: The address is actually just a mailbox service, so it sounds dodgy as hell to me. It doesn't necessarily mean that they're going to rip you off but it's not a real business.

Try Ian Kerr in Scotland, top notch seller. Email is kerso1123@msn.com
Also on eBay. Back in Oct he was listing the 7D for GB£1099, prices change with currency fluctuations so drop him an email for current price. I've used him several times no hassles at all, he is well recommended here too - do a search.

    'Unit 17'. :D

Thanks Everyone for your replies (even if I haven't quite got the hang of the boards terminology yet - Unit 17??)

General consensus is - The price is good but proceed at your peril. Or "if something is too good to be true then it probably is". Unfortunate.

Think I will stick with the more reputable stores and maybe even be patriotic if I can convince Birmingham s or Cons to be competitive..

If I get my elusive good deal I'll be sure to let you all know....

They address they give on the website says unit 17, giving some indication that they may have a warehouse (full of stock) but if you click the link Zillah posted above you'll see that unit 17 is probably just a mailbox. :D

ROFL... Well if dat aint a clincher then I don't know what is.... Thanks for the link, Zillah, that I did not spot. Looks like a VERY reputable address - NOT.

No offence to you OP - but the amount of people who get ripped off because they are "blinded" by their own greed is crazy.

if a website is offering the same product/service as other sites ...but seriously cheaper (A couple of hundred) ..... it is more than likely a dodgy site who will take your money and disappear.

Not sure I'd put it down to greed. Seems a bit harsh to me.

I think there is a difference between over paying suppliers in ireland (for what ever reason) for goods that are available at a more reasonable price else where. I mean the difference is €400 between reputable irish suppliers and reputable international suppliers. Thats a canon 1.4mm prime lens in the difference! I want to buy in Ireland but I can't bring myself to do it IMHO.

If we continue to over pay for things then we are only encouraging inflationary trends. I am only asking for a fair price. My intention is to bargain with the irish supplier, but I have absolutely no guilt about sourcing my gear at the most competitive price.

I know the web is full of shysters. You could say that my post has been the one place in the web that openly discusses dslrhut in a non derogatory factual way that maybe offers guidance to others.

I guess compartmentalizing people to being greedy just coz they are being conscientious seems to be an elitist statement, no offense to the poster.
