Dublin Bus route 39a not completing journey

Too often when I go on this bus you are forced to switch at Trinity college when you're going towards UCD. Often there is another 39a right behind it so it's only a minor inconvenience, but today apparently there was a "problem with the bus" and everyone had to get off with a 37 waiting (wasn't any good to me.) Anyone know why this keeps happening? Is it just the end of their shift or what? Pretty annoying when you're in a rush.

I only get this bus once or twice a fortnight when there's a gap in the train timetable, and there always seems to be a delay changing drivers at College St. Doesn't bother me too much since I would be getting off there anyway.

It happens a few times a week. I'd be waiting for the 39A at Trinity for about 20 mins, then the bus shows up but the driver says I'm not going to UCD, city centre only, so everyone has to get off the bus and wait for the next one. Bit of a joke really.
The 39A from Ongar to UCD, except the ones that randomly terminate at Trinity.
Every ten minutes unless it takes an extra ten minutes to change drivers.

Yeah well I imagine it was quite annoying for people today if they'd bought a ticket to UCD, he just said "Oh you can get the 46a" but if you didn't have a bus card like me you'd probably have to pay again. Anyways, not a huge deal, but I'm just saying it's annoying, has made me late a few times.

This is fast becoming one of the most complained about problems on here. Surely something needs to change. I understand the reason for drivers needing to break and finish shifts, but when bus loads of passengers are being disrupted then the operation is not working. There is no point advertising a bus route as cross city if it only runs to the city centre, and looking at the amount of buses parked at College Green, this is not happening to just the odd bus.

    100% agreement!

Seriously its getting to be a bit of a joke,

Whatever about the baggot street/merrion square buses sitting for ages at trinity college, its a joke that a cross city bus is splitting its journey half of the time.

If dublin bus is to make the 39a a more efficent route, it not only needs to look at the time allocated to the route, and maybe for the 39a to switch the driver changeover to bachelors walk and stop to take passengers at the 46a/145 stop at dolier street.

I've noticed that the 37 tends to switch drivers on Aston Quay frequently. Only lately last week I've seen the bus itself being switched at the end of Manor St / Blackhall Place. But the other person always looked like some kind of engineer not a driver.

That would have been a change of bus from Phibsboro depot due to a mechanical defect.

I suspected that the first time, maybe even getting low on fuel more so. But seemed a bit odd another 2 times within a few days as well.

Given all the buses are fuelled at night I would doubt that.

It's probably just a coincidence - unfortunately buses can like any other vehicle develop a defect.

that would be maintance changing the bus for a number of issues including ramp not working, low on ad-blue if it's a V.T. type bus, they might want it to work on it or send it for a D.O.E. where it's being changed is the nearest and most logical point , in most cases it's a case of where maintance can meet us to do this change. alot of times we find problems on buses which the passengers wouldn't be aware of. when we call for a change of bus it's prioritized into how bad the complaint is. sometimes they mightn't find a fault on it's first change so the next day, same driver ,same bus ,same fault.

I have noticed this happening with the 27 from Jobstown too where drivers are going as far as the City Center.

It does'nt happen on a regular basis but lets say i've seen it 3 times in the last month or so.

The 13 does it a few times a week, usually on the 18.15 bus from Grange Castle/Cuisine De France.

''Only going to the City Centre lads.''

I've been on the 27 where it needs to stop on Eden Quay for 15 minutes to change drivers, really annoying! Especially when the sames thing happens on the 39A.
My journey to or from college can be made half an hour longer because of the way the routes are being run.
