Are Beirut worth 60 euro to see them live?

They're playing here (Seoul) in January.

Only song I know is Sunday Smile. More importantly, what are they like live?

I went to see them live about 2 months ago with the sole purpose of seeing tune-yards again. Turned out tune-yards played an intimate gig the night before so I ended up seeing her twice in 2 days.

I was massively underwhelmed with Beirut (who I'm not a massive fan in the first place) but the crowd in general seemed to be impressed. I'm a bit perplexed at how a band like Beirut are so popular at the moment. They come across as rather bland and repetitive to me.

So, my answer would be no, unless tune-yards happen to be the support act.

60 quid way too much to see any band IMO.

Best avoided at that price. Live music, in general, is ridiculously overpriced.

60 for a ticket, no chance. I have an issue with bands that expect their fans to pay that sort of money.

Is it a usual ticket price where you live?

'In general...' being the key phrase here. For one, there's great value to be had in the indie/alternative scene (St. Vincent-15 quid a couple of weeks ago) and two, bands earn a crust from playing live-how many of us pay for CD's, records etc?

I'll hazard a guess and say the high ticket price is to do with the location of gig (Seoul)?? Consider the average for similar sized shows for foreign bands and then make a call.

Concerning Beirut, I've seen them twice and liked them. Not a massive fan but enjoyed them all the same and had a fun night. Both times I saw them it was definitely <30 squids.

Which is exactly why I said 'in general'. 60 quid for what is essentially a one-man band is ridiculous. Guessing a Beirut show here would cost between 20-30 euro. Still inflated.

    Thanks guys. Decision made.

I'm going to an all-day electro festival that week and the tickets are same price as Beirut who are playing on their own.

And guess who are playing at the festival? Crystal Castles. One of my favorite acts of the last few years.

I'm also living near Seoul and spotted both of those gigs! Crystal Castles is a definite but don't know enough about Beirut to be coaxed into that one...

Too bad they're god awful live. I'd say you'll have more fun anyway though.
