    This desktop PC is Pentium 4 - 2.80ghz with 3gigs RAM with XP installed -

    Is it possible to buy Windows 7 and install on this ?

    You can pick up a 3GB laptop for €300 these days with a dual core p6100. Compared to it a P4 is an old power hungry chip. Also the RAM will be faster, and the Hard Drive will be new.

    I would open the case and check for swelling capacitors on the motherboard of the P4 before investing in a license that will die if the mother board dies.
    A Pentium 4 3.0 GHz is a single core processor that benchmarks at 491

    The Intel Pentium P6100 2 GHz is a dual core processor that benchmarks at 1576

    I.e. The P6100 has roughly 3x the compute power of that older P4
