    Help me out here please. I'm first to admit I'm clueless when it comes to motors.

    I want to trade my car down ie to a smaller one, tax, petrol etc costing me too much. I'm currently driving a 07 Nissan xtrail petrol 1.6l & it's killing me wrt petrol & tax. It's in perfect condt w 4 new tyres.

    My prob is I don't know where to go, do I try to sell it privately or go into a Nissan garage and trade it in for something smaller or will they (as my hubby suggests) just laugh at me.
    I'd appreciate some advice as my DH just tells me I'm stuck with it.

    No your not:confused:

    Unfortunately trying to sell or trade a petrol X-Trail (2.0 litre the last time I checked) will be as easy as a dose of the clap.

    SUVs are no longer flavour of the month, petrol ones even more so due to the same reasons OP you want to get rid of it.

    Wikipedia says 2.0 was the smallest petrol

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_X-Trail.

    I never knew they also had a 280hp 2.0T (JDM):pac::pac:

    Well how much tax do you pay for it? A 2.0 is €614 tax for a year a 1.6 is €445.

    My wife and I traded in an 08 Nissan Navara pick-up for a new Toyota IQ last year and the dealer had no problem. He wanted us to put some money with the Navara but even at trade price it was worth what the IQ was selling for so a little negotiation saw a straight deal.

    The sales man was joking about trading such a large car for such a small one but he had no problem with it.

    The Navara's are diesel though... a 2.0 petrol SUV may well be a different story.

    Keep it. Unless you're doing really big mileage the cost of changing will outweigh any fuel/tax savings for years to come. And look at the tax disc - people will laugh at you if you don't know whether it's a 1.6 or a 2.0.;)
