Stereo Assistance

We've 2 cars - a Focus 2007, and a BMW 3 series 2001. The stereo in the Beemer is great - fantastic sound ....... what you'd expect in a BWM.

The Focus is the car I drive as I've a long, long, long, long (get the picture?!) commute and she's a diesel. BUT - the stereo is ****e, It's the built-in model that comes with the Fords - a 6000 CD model. The sound is flat and dead compared to the Beemer and it's a right pain in the ass ............ yeah, I know - hardly a major problem, but I'm looking for advice on how I might be able to improve the sound.

Does anyone know if changing the speakers on this model would be of great benefit, or if the head unit just sucks?
I don't want to change the head unit unless it can be swapped for another Ford-compatible unit .......... it links up to the steering wheel controls, blue tooth and voice control, so I don't want to screw them up.

    All help gratefully received ............

IIRC the Ford 6000 is a standard double-DIN sized unit, so you can get an aftermarket head unit to fit, and these days, many aftermarket units can be hooked up to the vehicle's steering wheel controls.

Upgrading the speakers may help, but be sure to stay within the wattage limit of the head unit.

IME, unless the original speakers are really crap, you'll gain more by changing the head unit.
