Q for anyone who has travelled through Terminal 2

We are heading to Chicago for Christmas and flying out of terminal 2. Never been to the new terminal and I'm wondering if there is a lot of walking involved from checkin to immigration to boarding. My mother has asthma and gets winded from walking too far. Would you recommend we get wheelchair assistance? She's morto at the thoughts of it but I'm guessing it's not as compact as T1. Any thoughts appreciated, cheers!

I was there recently and didn’t think it was particularly big! There was more of a distance between the check-in desk and security compared to terminal 1, but it was really just getting an escalator up one floor as far as I remember! Once I was through security all the shops/restaurants seemed to be in the one fairly compact area. There were seats that you could wait at while until you’re called through to immigration (on the screens), which wasn’t far at all. After that my gate was quite close, but I’m not sure if there are others that are much further out.

If she can handle terminal 1 alright I wouldn’t think she’d have any trouble with terminal 2. The only way I think issues might arise are if you encounter any long queues or if the seats are all taken. I didn’t have any trouble, but I’ve only been there once.

The distance from Check in to the boarding gate is about the same as it was in Terminal 1.
The US pre clearance gates are nearest to the terminal in pier E, once you pass the shopping area, so that saves a potentially long walk as it is a long pier.

Its not a straight forward walk as there are lifts or escalators to deal with. But even at a slow pace I would say it will take at most 5-7 minutes tops.

Give yourselves plenty of time so your mum can relax on the way to the plane. There are plenty of places to sit down and have a cuppa after security.

It might be worth asking in the Airline & Aviation forum too as there are lots of Airport staff there who will be in a better position to advise.
