    Hello all,

Just looking for stories or opinions on the Civic 1.7 diesel.
Something like this one on Donedeal. I'm just turned 18, on a full lisence since August. Would it be hard to insure? <---(I know, probably a stupid question ) Tax? Are they a reliable car?

Any pros or cons at all, as me and my sister are thinking of going halves on one after selling the current car when it gets the NCT in February.

Everything is gonna be expensive to insure, that's mad price. Have a look on autotrader.co.uk and use the revenue vrt calculator to calculate vrt, use xe.com to convert currency,

Also you're statistically likely to make sh1t of it, so maybe spend less on a small engined boring car.

Its an Opel/Izusu engine and is a decent unit.

Insurance will be 4k plus on your own policy I'd wager.

I like the way you worded that :D the alternative would maybe be a Opel Combo 1.3 diesel van. Small engined? Check. Boring? Definately :(

As I keep pointing out to people, engine size is almost irrelevent when it comes to getting an insurance quote. What you need to be looking at is the horsepower of the engine. The example I keep using is the car I drive, it's a 1.9 diesel, however, because it has no turbo and bugger all power, it's cheaper to insure than the likes of a 1.25 Fiesta.

That Civic for example has 100hp, so it will be expensive enough to insure, but won't be ridiculously so. If it's still too expensive, then you could consider the 1.4 TDCI engine (67hp) that is in loads of cars likes the Fiesta, Aygo, Citroen C1, Mazda 2, Peugeot 206, etc.

The word 'civic' in the name is the biggest factor for the quote for that car.

    No it won't.

Just did a quick quote on Axa with yer mans details, €2,800 for third party fire and theft on the Civic. A 105hp Golf was €2,950, a 95hp Mazda 3 was €2,800 everything else the same.

My suggestion of the 1.4 TDCI Fiesta came out at €2,580.

Thats a surprise, civics always had a heavy loading, maybe the older petrol models are the loaded ones.

Either way, its great being old....I'm paying just over €400 fully comp on an astra with the same engine as that civic:D
