I was driving on the road today and I drove through water i.e a river burst its banks and flowed out on the road. I didnt see it as it was pitch dark and the lights of cars coming in the opposite direction prevented me from seeing the flood in time. Anyway I had my air conditioning unit turned on to hot air in the car at the time I passed through the flood. A minute later I could smell a burning oil smell out of the heater and that lasted for a few minutes before the smell went away. Anyone know what that could be? Would it be water splashing off radiator or could it be something more serious? The car is an Audi A4 diesel. Thanks.

I'd say water went up on the engine.

There was probably some steam out the back for a few seconds after it happened.

I used to work on a farm and I'll tell you one thing, splashing cow **** on a hot engine smells worse

Nah as long as it doesn't go on electrics which it should if all engine covers are in place.

It's just cold water on how metal

You don't want it to get up to the air intake either - and if the car is still running, you should be ok on that score.
