Quinn Insurance has only recently upped their prices - now they are upping them again by another 12 percent from january. Can somebody tell these people that wages are going DOWN. same with the esb. What are they trying to do to us. Everyone will be on the public health service soon. Is that what they want.

Plenty of other insurance companies out there. Quinn are probably the worst in the market anyway.

I imagine the OP is talking about the health insurance market in which case there isn't plenty of other companies out there.

yes, thankyou it is the health insurance i am talking about. I have shopped around and it seems they are all at the Raising prices game and a charge if you want to switch.

If anyone above can advise on their experience with other health insurances please elaborate here. Maybe I am missing something

Wasn't risk equalisation rendered unconstitutional two years ago?

Well you're gonna love the 2% increase to all Pvt Motor and Home policies coming in January to make up for Quinn Insurance losses then !

Wouldn't it be great if someone who had Quinn car and health insurance had a heart attack (and survived) while driving and crashed (and survived) into the Quinn insurance building?

Quinn have been taken over by liberty Mutual (or something) so they'll probably hike a load of stuff up.

Really ? Despite the stress-induced heart attack when they arbitrarily hammer you with a completely unjustified price hike because of their bad gambling decisions ?

is it me or is there a point to it other than getting a few days worth of hospital if you need it

save the money you would spend on the insurance and put it into a savings account to use on a rainy day when you otherwise would have used the health insurance?

Have you ever seen a hospital bill? Christ they can get expensive fast

But there's a yearly cap and it's lower then yearly insurance rates.

The real point of having your insurance is to skip long lines for public visits, treatments and tests. You are also more likely to have more tests done if they can charge the insurer for it.

In theory, health insurance might allow you to have a private room etc, but in practice you're unlikely to get one.

The only real point of health insurance in this country is that it allows you to be treated, rather than thrown to the back of a looong waiting list. That alone makes it worth paying for. It's cr@p, but it's true.

    might be different for operations*

The other point is that if you own a house you won't have to sell it to pay for treatment.

Health costs are rising everywhere, people are living longer. My health insurance is going up around €35 a month from January which works out at around 9%. It's not just an Irish problem.

I likv in the UK so don't have health insurance. How much is it usually per month? Do most people have it? Do you still have to pay for doctors appointments if you have health insurance?

It will be different in the UK to other countries. Where I am it is mandatory to have but I have the most basic one, costs €420 a month but as it's so cheap I have to cover the first €550 of medical costs per year.

Is that in Ireland? We don’t know how lucky we are in the UK having it all for free, but when I move back to Ireland I suppose I’ll have to get it.

Blame Sean Quinn and his family for running his business into the ground in order to pay off other debts.
