Did anyone see that car on fire on M50 northbound at around 630pm?? Between dundrum and firhouse...

Was traveling southbound... it didnt look like an accident... looked like someone had just set fire to the car...

Did anybody traveling northbound get a better look at it?

Are you the reason the Northbound lane was at a snails crawl with no obvious obstructions ahead ?

I passed it on my way home. Looked like a Zafira it similar. Was very strange, hope nobody was hurt.

I was going southbound as well - it looked more like the car was parked rather than crashed. Only saw it for a second though so probably wrong.

mad though - the entire car was engulfed in flame.

I saw 2 zafiras on fire on the motorway in England inside a week in August, so my money is on one of those.

EDIT, just seeing post 10 :)

Its more likely to have gone on fire and the owner pulled in. Cars dont generally burst in to flames in a crash like in the movies.

    Hi all,

I am the "lucky" driver of the mentioned car...
Nobody set this car on fire. I was driving from Dundrum
when my windows stopped working, than I noticed my blinkers stopped to work too. Because of that I decided to move to the slow lane
and after few metres strong smoke started to come from the bottom of dashboard. I parked really quickly and left a car. Everything happened in 5 minutes
and I was very happy that I escaped.
We bought this car just recently and invested another 600 euro for maintenance.
The car was VW Sharan 2005.
Sad is that I was standing behind the car, maybe 40 metres and during one hour just 2 drivers stopped and asked me if I need a help...
I would like to Thank at least to those two...

    N.

Its dangerous to stop on a motorway. Unless your lying on the side of the road flopping like a fish I'm not stopping. What I can't believe is that there was a car blazing on the side of a motorway for a hour before emergency services arrived.

sharan is nice car, never thought it would go in to flames itself, probably was crashed, and repairs not done properly. hope youll get insurance, and get proper car then. main thing nobody hurt.

Don't worry, nobody but the OP thinks people pull in on side of M50 and set fire to their cars. Or that if there is no crash it means it must be that someone set the car alight. Most people have seen plenty of car fires in their time.

    Hi,

it was not a hour before fire brigade came.
it was the time all together I was staying there.
When fire brigade came I was left behind and felt really bad in shock alone.
    Still shaking...

Car was not crashed before and was well serviced. The timing belt was changed just a few weeks ago and another service checked all of usual stuff... I hope to get insurance too but at this moment not very confident to drive again...

Your new around here - you will learn eventually:rolleyes: Motors has been responsible for the return of many the stolen car and identifying one's used by scumbags to carry out crime.

    Hi,

Thanks Saab Ed - I did exactly the same what you said.
And because fire brigade was not sure if somebody was left in the car,
as they did not find me immediatelly...so
I was currious what kind of message will appear on the net...

Also I was looking for kind of support - maybe it is my way how to cope with such a shocking experience....but maybe this is really not the right place.

I am supposed to run support group for other people tomorrow morning and I just can not imagine how to do that at this moment...

    Hi Nadia,

Its only a car - it can be replaced; life cannot. You got out OK and no one hurt so be Thankful for that. You will be fine once you get some sleep and reflect on all.

Terrible thing to happen nadia, your insurance should pay up ok. Car fires are not that inusual - my first ever car went up in flames a long time ago, caused by an aftermarket alarm badly installed.

Years ago a friend of mine was driving in Germany in a Citroen which went on fire on an Autobahn , he got out ok and the Fire Brigade arrived , after they put the fire out the car was just a shell and all they said was : '' This would not have happened to a German car , this is what you get for buying French sh1t '' :D

I don't condone rubbernecking at all (before anyone shoots me), but bear in mind accident scenes canbe pretty chaotic there may be Emergency Services personnel/members of the public/oil slicks/debris etc. all over the place I wouldn't advise people to continue at maximum speed...

depends on the problem i suppose

if im on a single country road and an ambulance is behind me but theres no room to get by then im gonna put the foot down and try my best to get out of the way as fast as possible. (this is only in extreme conditions)

but for the likes of this it just causes delays people slowing down just to stare. just keep moving. the faster you move the faster emergency people can get there too.
