iPhone 3GS serious battery issue

Hi all, hoping someone may be able to help.

Having serious issues with my iPhone battery that's gotten progressively worse over the last month.
At this stage if I attempt to do anything with the phone-make a call, check e-mail, use safari, play a game etc it turns itself off after about 2 mins and will not turn back on until it's been plugged in. It keeps saying the battery is dead even though it had been at 100%.
So I need to have it constantly on charge in order to use it so it's become more of a landline than a mobile!

The software is up to date, there's nothing running in the background and anything that likes to connect to the net silently has been turned off. I have it 19 months now.

At this stage I'm thinking of just buying a new sim free iPhone as it really is driving me nuts!

Any advice? Is getting a new phone the only option?

Get the battery replaced, sounds like its reached the end of its life

Cheers, kind of thought that. Didn't realise you could replace the battery. Any recommendations for anywhere in Dublin I could get that done and a rough idea of how much it'd cost?

I have an iPhone 3GS and have constant problems with it. Even worse now since I upgraded to ios5. Video camera freezing, Internet telling me have 2bars of 3G signal and yet Internet not working. Then internet starts working again.
Settings screen also frozen so had to shutdown and reboot.
I call apple support and go straight to recorded message to pay €37.50 for any assistance as phone is 15 months old and warranty finished.
Looks like a small claims issue against apple and o2. Sale of goods act...faulty goods etc
