    Hi,
I'm in my final year this year of a legal-based degree. I'm starting to hear a lot about 2.1s, 2.2s, etc. I'm boarderline 2.2/2.1 myself but I just don't know if I'll be able to make the 2.1 or not this year. I think a lot will come down to luck on the day of the exams. I am aware that getting a 2.1 or even a first is the ideal scenario but is it really the end of the world if I get a 2.2? This issue is really starting to get under my skin to be honest!:o
    Thanks in advance!

I wouldnt say it's the end of the world but if you go for a job and there is a person with a 2.1 and you have a 2.2 they'll have the upper hand, so it does matter.

Just try get the 2.1 anyway.

In the current labour market; yes.

If you want even an interview much less a job; do everything you can to get a 2.1

Yes, it is. Most universities ask you for a 2:1 if you wnat to do a postgrad. Same for most jobs nowadays. It's getting very competitive.

    Or . . . . . . . . . . . try to get the 1.1 ?

Well if the person is borderline 2.2/2.1 they are more than likely not going to get a 1.1, and if are contemplating getting a 2.2 as it's easier for them, aiming for a 1.1 will just lead to dissapointment

If they are expecting a 2.2 , aim for a 1.1 and get a 2.1 that would be grand. I just don't see why some people aim low, why not aim high ? Even if I know there's no chance of me getting a first, i'll still aim for it, whats the worst that can happen if I aim for a 1.1 ?

It reminds me of the typical job interview question when you are in college.
"What degree grade do you think you will achieve ? "
I have know clue as to why anyone would want to say anything other than a 1.1 , people regularly respond with 2.2 or 2.1, why ?????

Setting realistic goals tends to be an important part of any job and if you're someone who's scraped through or gotten 2.2s in the first 2/3 years of your degree, you'll be pulled up on it straight away in an interview if you tell them that you think/expect to achieve a 1.1.

Obviously you should aim to do as best you can and give it your all but just be willing to back up whatever you say to an interviewer.

But if you say you think you'll get a 1.1 and say so, and only get a 2.2, you'll look arrogant and plain stupid. It's important to earn as high as possible but you have to be realistic aswell.

People lie about grade expectations all the time, to look humble.
It doesn't matter what you tell people. Aim for a first, and just try your best in general.
If you really putting in effort 2.1 should be achievable.

There is no such thing as a a 1.1. It's called a First, or first class honours. You'll sound odd if you say "one one" so try to get the terminology right for a start if you want to sound like you know what you're on about.
