On todays Joe Duffy programme they are advertising some v good bargains as part of "Fiver Friday". As far as I know it is for next Friday.

    It includes:

    1. Any vehicle on Tarbert Ferry for a fiver.
    2. Any rug in any branch of Bargaintown for a fiver.
    3. Attend the RTE Symphony orchestra in National Concert Hall for a fiver.

There are some more bargains as well.

I think that you just go to the particular premises on Friday.

Hmmm...I predict a riot in Bargaintown on Friday...

Alternatively, in the (unlikely) event of them having half-decent rugs in the first place, you can bet that they will be nice and snug in the stockroom until Saturday morning...

Were these any good last year?

Hmm, I really need a new rug. I might head down on Friday morning to see if they've any half decent ones.

    Thanks for the tip OP!

They do this in drogheda every Friday not just next Friday. Lots of businesses take part. Nothing new just Joe jumping on the band wagon

Its not "any rug" in Bargaintown at all.

Its small little cheap and crappy items that were 39 euro, that no one wants to buy.

I was up there today and managed to get a quick look at the rugs that they are holding for friday.YUK,is all I can say.

Just a gimmick to get people through the doors.

Maybe he can now try to justify his big "RTE" paycheque a little more.

it's all a load of cobblers imo
if local retailers want the business they should have lower everyday prices, not just using these one-off gimmicks

I wonder when it started in Drogheda. To be fair to Joe, a guy rang in last april and that's how Liveline got behind it. Fair is fair.

I'm not sure when it started. Only back in the country a few weeks and i seen the signs all around drogheda. Cafe's, chemists etc doing fiver Fridays.
Last April though and he's only now making a big deal of a one off Friday next week or is it going to be an on going thing on Joe's show?

A fiver plus their share of the 160 Euro all TV licence payers stump up for them.
    Not really a bargain.

    Ah come on

There's no point making loose talk when you have no facts.... there was a fiver friday during the summer also. Fair is fair. Stop waffling about the timing of Fiverfriday

Well this wasn't during the summer. The last two weeks I've been up there the offers have been on. What makes you think they wouldn't be?

In a word NO!!! That's my prob feel as though I'm on the verge of a heartattack/nervous breakdown most of the time at the min so after the budget I think I just wom't care anymore. Way way too depressing for words. Don't let the swines ruin our lives they have our money don't let them take our sense of humour too. Rant over :)

Was fiver Friday not a thing that Duffy and his show started back at the start of the year after some one phoned his show?

I dont listen to him or anything but its not as if he just jumped on the bandwagon now he was behind at least earlier in the year.If yous dont like the rugs, burgers and chips, haircuts, guitar strings, cakes, butcher deals or anything else I've ever seen organised for Fiver friday then dont buy them.Someone will and most of the time they will be getting some sort of bargain

Attend the RTE Symphony orchestra in National Concert Hall for a fiver

So much better things i could do for a fiver.
160 euro plus 5 euro for this is far from a bargain.
