good reviews here! looks like I might finally have found a cheap tablet! no official market place out of the box, but ROM can be changed.

trying to find more reviews though!

    Avoid Arnova like the plague.

it'd be nice if posts like the above actually supplied a feckin reason why to avoid arnova in the same post

Oops! Didn't see that it was the G2 model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 219 ✭✭rgunning

This is not the same model. That is the 10, as opposed to the G2 as per op
    139 On Pixmania.

The Arnova also got some pretty bad reviews, was going to buy one myself but reviews steered me away.

Sorry, my mistake! Maybe this one is worth looking at then, didn't notice the G2 part.

What's difference between this and the 101 (£157 on amazon, €199 in tesco)?

Arnova is Archos budget line of products. It's like Lada bringing out a budget line of cars.

It's not a real Archos, it's a Rockchip-based tablet with a useless TN panel made by a Chinese OEM, Archos have very little involvement in the hardware or software. They just slap their name on it.

If you want to pay €180 for a crappy Rockchip tablet then go ahead. The proper Archos tablets don't cost much more, and the prices of mid-range tablets with good hardware and good screens is coming down towards the €200 bracket anyway next year.

Groundless rubbishing of the device aside, can anyone confirm whether or not this model (G2) is in Maplins?

before anybody goes running (which i did), they have none in stock ANYWHERE, even in uk. they will be receiving stock in february 2012. i have no F******** idea why they are still advertising this. it was a waste of my time and petrol today, and im raging. i know i should have called, but with this kind of offer, you dont really wait...

thanks adm! sorry I moved my post to another thread, I didnt mean to reply here but in a general thread about tablets under 200. But appreciate the quick response! :)

I would be interested though what your opinion on the one from eurdeal though. Usually if the price seems too good to be true, than it is too good to be true!

I wouldnt buy that one myself. It doesnt say whether screen is capacitive or resistive. You want a capacitive one. It's chinese - some of which are said to be ok - but personally i wouldnt chance it.

These are on sale in HMV for €169. Sticker says reduced from €338.
I picked one up today - don't know how good it is though?
Anyone get one and can recommend? I got it for my mum for Christmas - she will using it for limited browsing mainly.

Went with that hmv offer today, same deal as yourself cee-jay, its a gift for my mam. So far so good, my mam is a complete technophobe but she likes the idea of this. I'm setting it up for her so she has some music and apps on it but she will mainly be browsing, seems ideal for that really! It's fairly ok response wise too, overall I am pleased with it and I am pretty sure she will be too when she finally joins the online world!

None available in HMV Limerick (Cruises St or Crescent). Carphone Warehouse are advertising them for €199.90 but not in stock in Arthurs Quay.

They do have the Archos 7" with Android 2.1 Eclair but it only gives access to Android Library rather than Market. Its advertised at €179.90 but they are selling them for €149.90.

I see that you can change the ROM but is that easy enough to do for an non-techie? :o.

Would the 7" be too small for general kids use (game apps, home browsing, travel videos)?
