HTC Wildfire S or something better for teenager?

    Hi Everyone,

My teen has picked out a HTC Wildfire S (€179 on O2) as the phone they want for Christmas, although is somewhat open to better/other suggestions. They are currently on O2 prepay if that matters.

Any opinions or alternative suggestions on what might be a better choice?

It will be used for the usual teenage stuff:

    - internet browsing
    - email
    - facebook
    - music
    - camera / pictures
    - video
    - apps

Opinions / suggestions welcome before I order.

    Thanks,
    Eddie

    Budget?

I'd rather spend a bit more and get the Galaxy Ace myself.

Budget, would be €200'ish, but could stretch some more (€250 maximum) if clearly justified.

Think the Ace is €250, the Wildfire S just doesn't do it for me, its a pretty weak device and I think the ACE is a better budget type device, the question for you is does he/she deserve the extra money being spent :D

Go for the SE xperia play for €159... its a high end device. Both wildfire & ace are mid range devices & will perform as such.

V little storage space, download a few apps, and the problems will start

Apart from storage , not a bad phone

    Actually only €199. http://www.o2online.ie/o2/shop/phones/samsung-s5830-galaxy-ace/125/

Sony was looked at initially, I was even suggestioning the Sony Xperia Ray but they don't like the look/feel. Might be worth a revisit though.

I don't recommend the Ace over the Wildfire S to be honest, there is a lot of Samsung fanboys on this forum!

Both are only mid range phones but I like the HTC sense software, a lot of people do not agree with me on sense, after extensive research (and playing with both) I found my preference was with HTC, as one of the above posters said internal memory is shoddy on them but if she is only using it for Fb and the like it should not be hugely important, another one worth considering is Acer Liquid Metal on Expansys.ie....

I'd say the Acer Liquid Metal or the Play are probably your best bet.

Both are probably a bit chunky but both have better screen resolution then either the ace or the wildfire and this makes a huge difference to the user experience.

The play technically is the best phone in every aspect however it is a bit of a brick and feels horrible to hold

I have the Acer and my GF the wildfire S, I feel the Acer is superior, in paticular the screen display is bigger and much better definition

There are lots of sites, that let u combine several phones at once, spec wise

Samsung Galaxy W could be worth a look, probably the upper side of €250 though. It does have a 3.7" Super LCD screen, and a 1.4GHz chip, though. Haven't actually played with it, but on paper, its a very nice handset. On paper, it should absolutely smash phones like the ACE and Wildfire, as well as the xperia play

Remember the problem with the Wildfire S is that it comes with the same CPU and GPU as a €39 Samsung Galaxy Europa, and as such is a poor performer. €180 or so is far too much for a 600MHz chipped android phone. In its defence, it does feel well built and the sense UI is quite nice..

Thanks, but probably a little pricey and I don't see on O2 prepay yet either.

    Kids, who'd hav'em.....:)
