Feel like an idiot, drove the car through a puddle too fast, car kept going for about half a mile, smelled awful, found the nearest place I could pull in and here I am... Garage doesn't open till 9, so I'm stuck till then anyway. What should i do? After a quick read online, apparently if it's not too bad, then if you wait 40 mins it might dry by itself, and off it goes again? I not experienced enough to gauge how bad, but I imagine t was bad.

I tried starting again, no luck, dont want to do anymore in case I do more damage.. I assume an expensive trip to the garage is in order, I just hope it isn't totalled as I really can't afford a new car... :(.

Electrics still work, but I'm afraid to use them...

Car is a 99 seat Ibiza.

did the car stop, or did you just stop it? I'd say drive it on and hope it dries out.

Ii went through, water splashed everywhere, about 50 metres later the car started shuddering and nearly died, I slowed to a stop and revved the engine for a few seconds as the road I was stopped on was awful, there was an awful smell, like burning plastic(:( ) and then got her a half mile down the road to pull in, as soon as I pulled in, I let it idle, and it died. Now it wont start. I haven't tried in about 20 mins as i don't want to do anymore damage, just waiting till 9 to get towed to the garage...

i thought by your first post you had stopped it yourself, yeh get it towed to garage so, it may just dry out hopefully you didnt do any real damage.

I'd say you've got water on one of the plug leads causing a misfire, the smell would be the unburned fuel going through the cat.

If you had caused engine damage by driving through the puddle/flood the engine would have cut out immediately.
