Between Drive and Warrior for me.

Think it was a fairly poor year for films overall.

Drive. Not only the best film, but possibly the only good film I've seen this year.
Been an awful year for cinema.

Lads if you're going to post lists at least go into some detail about why you picked that film. List threads are against the charter.

Agreed its been a bad year.

1: Tucker & Dale Vs Evil - My favourite film just because of the sheer enjoyment of it.
    2: Moneyball - A close second.
    3: Drive

Never really get this 'it's been a bad year for cinema' line of thinking. You've got The Tree of Life, Drive, Melancholia, Midnight in Paris, Tyrannosaur, Take Shelter, Attack the Block...to name some of the obvious ones. I'm still waiting to catch about 20 films from this year as well so I'm sure there's a few more good ones in there. Seriously, it's the same level of quality most years.

Every year is a bad year for some people. Most people refuse to actually go out of their way and look for anything outside what's playing in the local multiplex. The list of great films released this year is a long and rewarding one.

Not for me, I wouldn't rate any of those films you just mentioned except for Drive and Tree of Life. In pretty much every genre its been a bad year.

Ides of March and Senna were excellent but there has been no obvious standout winner

That's completely untrue, there have been numerous films released in each genre that stand out as fantastic pieces of cinema. True Grit, Stake Land, Mothers Day, Duper,The Woman, winter's Bone, Mr. Nobody, Hanna, the Fighter, Faster, X-Men First Class, Kill List, etc, etc... That's just a tiny selection of great films which were in cinemas and come to mind but there are literally hundreds of other excellent films released in the past year across every genre.

Going to lock this as the annual film awards will be kicking off in December, and even the OP seems to have no interest in discussion.

And a bad year? Really? Kill List, Confessions, I Saw the devil, Poetry, Summer Wars, Eva 2.22, Cold Fish, A Separation and all the others already mentioned? A year is only as good or bad as you make it.

Sorry... Drive because it had action, drama and suspense. The lead character played by Gosling was one of the coolest character's I've ever seen on screen. The soundtrack is top quality, so much so that I ordered it from America, it captures the style and atmosphere of the film perfectly. The neo noir style of the film is like nothing else this year and of course the scenes of violence made me nervously laugh out loud. I did not expect that

I disagree that it has been a bad year for film I have seen a number of good films this year but I think Drive stands alone at the top of my list.

We'll have to disagree on that so.
