Should there be a GAA combine?

As in, a GAA version of the NFL combine (http://www.nfl.com/combine/workouts). Aimed at GAA minors, and some of the drills would need to be amended of course. I think it would be a good event for the off season and it would be a good way to help standards increase in the GAA.

But to who's benefit would it be.

The NFL Combine is there as a tool to help teams evaluate the condition of potential draft picks, and for draftees to showcase their abilities.

In GAA there is no such drafting or trading or selling/buying of players so what use would something like that be.

Counties already have their own events/procedures to evaluate players when determining who should be in their senior side.

I know counties already have their own events/procedures for evaluating their minors but this will just make it more open and accessible for the benefit of the fans.

It would also benefit the GAA in that it would create a bit of buzz and hype for the upcoming season, would be a good event to have a week before the start of the season. I'm sure it will never happen but I'm just nosey to find out how my countys players would stack up against the opposition.

is that not called the All Ireland championship? :pac:

also, dont see the need or point to it either. counties have their own development squads and methods. I couldnt see myself travelling to some far off place in Ireland to watch a bunch of minors from other counties do training drills

NFL style combine is completely inapplicable to GAA I'm afraid, it's whole purpose is an alien concept.

I don't think a combine would work in an inter-county sense, but in a large town where getting from 1 club to another could be an option.

The combine would provide no added value for the GAA... Better off promoting the games and competitions they have TBH
