heard someone on BFF say they made their own, they used the worn tracks of a CAT challenger or else it was a rubber track digger for the scraper rubber

Farmhand/Fastparts have them, if you ring them 01 8129700 they can put you in contact with somebody local

Got a reply of these this morning an yes they only supply wholesalers!

Got a few different prices from different companies and the price is anything from 200e to nearly 400e including delivery!! Better off buying a new scraper at that rate!

Anyone know where someone might pick up a worn one of these? They'd surely be cheaper and do the same job

Try your local quarry for old conveyor belts, they are ideal for making rubbers for yard scrapers and even cattle mats.

lad on donedeal selling rubber strip for approx 1.60e a foot.

He is from Clare and delivers for €8.

I am going to buy some for under doors to keep drafts out

What about when you wear down a challenger track edge to the wire?

and then the wires start breaking off.

and then you spread them with the slurry.......

Bought a new scraper here last year for around 300. Hardly worth the hassle of buying a rubber. Our old one was beyond fcuked. Repair wasn't an option.

    Reversible?

On a related note, we've always used this type of scraper http://foxbros.ie/assets/general/yard-scraper2.gif
Does the job grand, and no need to flip it around to change the direction etc, however my dad keeps on bending the sides coming in and out of the cubicle sheds. I can either replace both sides and the rubber underneath, which I'd say will be 300 or so with labour. Should I replace with one of these reversible all rubber ones? My fear is that it will be too hard for my dad to flip it around, they operate on a rope don't they?

    Yep.

That's way cheaper than I thought it would be.

I still find it hard to see the sense in a handle for a shovel being only a few euro cheaper than a new shovel.

    I must be getting old:(

The pin is not that big a pull. Put on your engineering hat and fit a small hydraulic ram to the pin.

A few pounds pressure on rope is all it needs, if needs be you could fit another lever nearer to tractor that would make it childs play. The all rubber scraper is very good as it scrapes along its vertical edge

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,559 ✭✭✭pedigree 6

Yea there's no pressure at all to pull the rope.
When the pin is not touching off the scraper i.e. tractor not too far forward or back, it's simple. Plus have the pin greased as well.

I have 2 ropes tied together off the fertiliser bags to my scraper.
So that will show you how easy it is to pull the lever.
