Can't access iTunes store.

    Hi folks, sorry if this has been asked before - had a scout through older pages, but couldn't find anything.

    Have just got a new laptop and have downloaded iTunes, but can't access the iTunes store. I've uninstalled it, re-installed it, rebooted, done everything I can think of but no joy. It searches for the store, looks like it's loading up, but then stops dead.

    Has anyone had any experience with this or any tips? Very frustrating!:(

    Delete all apple entries in your hosts file
    C:\windows\drivers\etc

    Windows probably won't let you edit your host file so you may need to copy it to a different folder, edit it, copy and paste it back in and overwrite and reboot

    Thanks, and sorry to be a pest but I wouldn't really know how to go about doing that! I'm not computer illiterate, just wouldn't be overly knowledgeable either. Any chance of a bit more info? :D Thanks in advance.

    On Mac:
    * Open Finder
    * Hold down COMMAND + SHIFT keys and press 'G'
    * Enter "/private/etc/" in the field and press "Go"
    * Find "hosts" file in the directory
    * Drag the file to your desktop
    * Open it in text editor
    * Remove the line that has gs.apple.com entirely or put a # at the beginning of it to comment it out
    * Save the file
    * Drag it back to the /private/etc/ folder.
    * You'd need to enter your username and password to authenticate the move

    On Windows:

    * Locate the hosts file in one of the following directories:
    Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts
    Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
    Windows XP, Vista, 7 c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
    * Right click and click on "Open With..." and then click on "Notepad" on the list.
    * Remove the line that has gs.apple.com completely and save

    Thanks for that Cathal, appreciate it, but still having a bit of trouble - there doesn't seem to be the line gs.apple.com in the hosts file.

    I've attached a screenshot of what comes up.

    If you had any more advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks again.
