I was out with the rifle this past 2 sundays and have seen a small pond in a wet field with ducks on it. i crept up on them to behind the nearest tree and they appeared pinkish in colour. Teal i think?? While i watched them for 10mins or so, a duck circled overhead but never landed. It appeared bigger than these with longish neck. Ive never shot ducks before and have no idea about what way to go about it. Note this pond is fairly open. Any tips? thanks. (Will be shooting with 12Gauge SxS)

The bird with the long neck was more then likely a mallard, can be quiet rare to see them at the same flight pond.

Duck shooting in difficult, even more so if it's your first time as you will without doubt have a tendency to rush shots in two forms- one being lifting the gun to early
Two leading too much or lagging behind, you will prob get up to early or point the gun to early-- patience is key!!! Best comes to those who wait.

If you don't like the type on shots on the first flight more will come.

Camo up very well! Seeing as its a flooded type pond natural cover might be hard to come by, make less tracks as possible to and around the spot as ducks are very fussy. Keep your dog close by. A cano net if you have one or can borrow one will help

Use good cartridges that you trust, nothing worse then a bird getting away, 5 32grms are what I choose.

Only and one last point, it's get dark alot faster then you think so bring a torch and give yourself plenty of time before the flight begins.

First off is to properly identify your quarry before you mount the gun and pull the trigger.
