When I was in college I was on grant + maintenance. I dropped out due to illness and now I want to finish it.

On JSA for over a year now, and in January I want to repeat my last semester of 3rd year to finally get my degree, can I stay on JSA or claim BTEA?

I have saved up for the college fee so I can pay that myself but to keep my going during college if I don't find a part time job do I have any possibilities? Thanks

This came up on a thread earlier this month. As it works out, BTEA is not available for just a semester but only for those registered for full time study for the full academic year.

And of course, as you know, to continue JSA you need to be looking for and available for full time work and wouldn't be when repeating the semester.

The BTEA rules are very strictly adhered to but there would be nothing lost by going into the SW office and asking to speak to the BTEA person and putting your case anyway.
