STAT NOT WORKING ON OIL COOKER??

    i was in a house today and the person was telling me that his oil cooker was beginning to bang after leaving it on for a while.i checked the stat on the pipe and the smallest temp on it was 10 degrees.the stat was set at 55 degrees but when i turned it back to 10 degrees <lowest temp on dial> there was no click! i thought the stat wud click when its turned back to lowest temp or do some of them not click? it was an orange stat.any ideas?

    not necessarily
    the only way to be sure is to check stat when there is some heat in the system
    it could be a pump problem either
    time for a pro to have a check
